Uniform school shoes.

What you think about this?   My  granddaughter's leather school shoes fell to bits from walking home in the rain.   Mum bought her a cheap pair of black canvas ones  which was all she could afford that week.

Now here's the whinge I have.   The school made her take them off, walk around bare foot and walk home from school with no shoes on!!:-(X-(

Does this constitute child abuse??  Psychological I mean.

Re: Uniform school shoes.

if the story is true, the school has a hell of a lot to answer for.....

but just wondering if there is another reason she took them off ---did they hurt, were they uncomfortable, was she being teased for not having the correct ones?

A "the school made me take them off" story might be just what the kid thinks will force mum into buying her a proper pair

Re: Uniform school shoes.

Sounds like a pile of BS to me. I'd be calling the school for their version of the story before rushing off to seek legal advice or contacting ACA based on the testimonial of a 14yo girl.

an Gil, not sure about the school making her walk around in bare feet  - wondering who made that call - imagine if she had have cut her foot or something.... it surprises me the school were so lax in protecting themselves iykwim

exactly.  i dont believe a school would do that.  the current laws are pretty strict.

Re: Uniform school shoes.

Doesn't ring true to me in this day and age when schools know about OHS and duty of care. The shoes would at least have done until others could be bought.

Girl is 14, didn't we all rebel just a little at that age re school uniform items.

Re: Uniform school shoes.

Gill if I was the mum I would call the school and find out exactly what was said and then speak to the DD again. Definitely needs to be sorted out because if that did happen the school would have breech OH&S and duty of care.

Love to know what the outcome is if you get a moment to let us know ๐Ÿ™‚

OH&S says you have to have shoes on at school the WHOLE time.  No open toed shoes - even for teachers (no birkenstock sandals).... so I'm going to call BS on this story.

I work as a teacher at a special school and some of the children take their shoes off as they hate wearing them, and the teachers and assistants spend half the day putting them back on - as the children (and teachers) MUST wear shoes at all times.

Also, I cannot see how a school could "force" a 14 year old to take off their shoes.  Hold her down and take them?  VERY strange.

Re: Uniform school shoes.

The school my sons went to they had to wear a specific brand/s and styles of shoe shoes to comply with OH&S regulations. The school bought some to have as spares if kids didn't come in

compliant footwear .It would seem really odd that a school should allow bare feet ? Was it the decision of one teacher or was the Principal aware ?

did your GD try to get them before walking home ?

wouldn't most thing which are confiscated by able to be collected at the end of the day anyway ?
