Uniforms for NSW workers

The NSW tax payers have just paid out $6.6m to rigout our railway workers and others, the cost to dispose of the old uniforms is $300.000. Design costs were $8500.00 and they will last about 18 months.

The employees who have been given these uniforms for FREE are whinging about the feel of the material.

My message - get over it , if you don't want to wear what is supplied FREE then you have 2 options, supply your own or get another job, sheeeesh what do people want ?

Your comments please.

Newstart, I suggest you apply to Sydney Transport for a job and then you too can have a free uniform and you can put up with it regardless of conditions.

MMMMMMM, Don't need to but if I did I would wear the uniform provided, run my own business and wear what I want, also my employees wear what they want as long as it is within company policy and they also get a generous clothing allowance, very happy employees.

So if they don't want FREE uniforms leave and get another job, they have that option if they don't like the clothes supplied.

Re: Uniforms for NSW workers

The uniforms have gone from cotton, made in Australia and functional to polyester, made in Asia and hard to wear.

I think the staff have a good right to complain.

The first time I saw our station manager in it, I said "is it mufti day today?" cause he usually wears a neatly ironed shirt and shorts. Suddenly I saw him in what I thought was his weekend footy tshirt in that shiny polyester material with badly fitting long pants.

I was shocked when he said "new uniform".

He's gone from professional looking to slovenly.

And it IS a disgrace that the government would not support an Australian industry in the choice of this clothing.

I totally agree with your comment, it is the government cutting costs by using overseas companies who employ labour at 1/10th of what it costs here.

The government encourages us to "buy Australian" but I think leading by example would be a better solution. Look at the government cars, I did not see one Holden in the PM's entourage to see the GG, but I am digressing.

I still think that if a uniform is supplied FREE wear it, if consultation was not made with union members who should consult about the uniforms and look after their members then there is not much to  argue about.

That's awful people have to wear polyester rubbish!

I get bad eczema so always try to wear natural materials (cotton, wool, silk).  When I sweat it makes the eczema worse.

I recently bought what I thought was a very cute top from Portmans (cheap & cheerful), in a synthetic fabric, wore it to work, it was hot and sweaty.  Thank God I was wearing a singlet under it because where the fabric touched my chest (above the singlet) and on my arms I have developed a hideous rash - especially on my chest.  It's AWFUL and directly related to having synthetic fabrics on the skin.

๐Ÿ˜ž  And I only wore it for one day.

I simply could not wear a synthetic shirt, especially in summer.  Awful.

Yes, it would be awful to wear polyester, clingy shirts on a hot high humidity Sydney day in the summer.

I believe the knitted vest might be made in Australia, and one other small item.

Also a rumour on the web, the long pants were rejected by jetstar..and Sydney Transport no idea if that is true.

But there does seem to be a problem with fit or the long pants especially.

Staff ordered their own size from the samples and when their order turned up, the pants didnt fit.
