Definitely upside down imo and I cannot see why there would be any danger of snapping anything off since it should be hung on a wall - not propped up on any of the decoration.

Grumpycat:

Got a vertical grill?
You might be sitting on a fortune. Personally I think he's dreaming, to quote the dad from the movie, The Castle.

I had one of those, used it all the time..wore it out. Don't think I would by another at $300+ though!

It should be hung on a wall, but atm it is resting on its edge on the floor, so if it is upside down, it makes sense to store it on the strongest side and not risk the little ornate bits.

But sheesh - does it matter if it is sideways in the picture?

all that matters is it is very nice and the owner likes it!

Agree.  I think the glass (which would be on the top once hung) is a terrific idea.  It will give more light to the next  shelf down.  I am quite envious.

Sideways, on it's strongest side, would be a better way to store it Smiley Happy

As far as the picture being sideways ......... I don't see it that way Smiley LOL

The comment was in no way a judgement of taste - I like it too Smiley Wink

Re: Useless Kitchen Items You Own or Have owned In the Past?

i'm a yank. my world is apparently upside down to most of you here,as is my train of thought.

i'd mount it as shown, with the fancy trim at the top, where it makes sense to be.why would that be on the bottom? and why would the shelf showing as a top shelf be a LOW shelf instead/ smh....?

and it would put the plate rails where i could REACH them, being vertically challenged. but hey, that's just MY opinion, right?

i'd like to know how the owner plans to hang it.

taste my religion! nibble a witch! 😄

Now I am confused.  How easy was that?  Smiley Frustrated

I wonder if the weight of the plates would impact on the glass shelf?  I don't see the piece as taking really heavy items.

What a wonderful piece to have though for a future.........

"it's time for a change; let's upturn the shelf unit, darling" .  "Easy peasy" says hubby.

I have a corkscrew in the drawer that's pretty useless with all the screw top bottles these days.

Sin, I think it is what you call an 'over mantle'

So it would have been hung over the mantlepiece -

hung high - so the top bit didn't need to be ornate.

it was the bottom bit that was at eye level

But yeah,  I'd like to know how it will be hung, too
