I've been crunching up egg shells all winter in anticipation of tomatoe growing season. My romas, in particular, had flattened off brown bottoms. So diod the capsicums. Hopefully the eggshell will stop it this year. My grubs prefer their tomotoes with round bottoms
We grow what we can whenever we can, but we believe in climate change. I don't think there are true seasons any more. Grow what you want to eat is my theory and hope for the right weather.

it can be a symptom of a calcium or lime deficiency apparently, hence the eggshells 🙂
The farmers around here add lime to their paddocks so it seems plausible.
I'm fairly careful not to water from above. Last year I had trouble with them splitting from uneven watering, but the fruit bottoms weren't so bad. I have given up growing Romas, they seemed to be the most susceptible.
I think the soil is pretty good. My BILwas most impressed with how well the weeds flourished in my vegie patch 
oh, I tell you what I do have problems with, white ants and witchety type grubs eating my root vegetables!
I think I need chooks.
