Vege garden question

DISCLAIMER: We are NOT keen Gardeners 

OH has just spent a considerable number of days digging over, and weeding, his "vege patch".   It's north facing and gets sun most of the day and seems to be good soil.  He does plan to dig through some manure and use pea straw on the surface.

Quesion is, what should he/we plant now?  He has lots of ideas for what I think are winter crop veges, e.g., carrots, potatoes etc, but what can we productively and easily grow at this time of the year?

We are on the far south coast of NSW.

ATM we have in tomato's , capsicum, ,celery,,corn, ,carrots,, asparagus , onions,

spuds, jeruselum artichokes,  garlic, silverbeet, spinach,  salad mix lettuce,

and we just finished picking our

sugar loaf cabbages, and pumpkins, jap, trombone  and triamble.

i am sure we will put a few more things in   we also grow all our own herbs and have a good variety of fruit trees.

and berries  as in blackberry, boysenberry and not to forget strawberrys

as for the white ants theyre probably eating timber near by, and going for the roots for moisture

i'd make sure not to plant near old timer, old tree stumps, etc. and don't use timber surrounds [edging] for the vege patch. so nothing would attract them

Thanks bushie,   some things are a bit of a hit and a miss  but it is all trial and error isn't it.

 we have 3 worm farms too.  i forgot to add we have 2 types of zucchini in , blackjack and the globe  ( round )

they are great for stuffing.

I did eat some of the sprouts, they were pretty good, but mostly I just grow stuff for the fun of it, and then the bugs eat it or it goes to seed.

place is riddled with them. they destroyed an apricot tree. we've had the trees around the place treated, but they are still here.

There isn't any timber near the vegie patch, but yeah, they could be looking for moisture. It's really dry here at the moment. They were munching on my beetroots.

Last year I had eathworms eating my potatoes.

The witchety grub thingys have killed two 3 pepper trees.

I have made so many mistakes but its all a learning process .... I have some Blackjacks I grew from seed, just about ready for planting out ..... I really should get a worm farm or two, maybe next yr ... atm I have spuds, 2 types of capsicum, parsley, spring onions, cabbage, mint, beetroot, cherry and roma tomatoes, Lebanese cues are just about ready for planting, strawberries ( 2 types ) and various fruit trees ... need to get some more varieties of tomatoes planted as well

I've got some little tomatoe plants that have sprung up by themselves. Will be interesting to see what they turn out to be.

I've planted 3 different varieties for the past 3 years so they could be anything.

They could also be farmers friends, I've been tricked by them before.

I made a mistake and planted 8 cherry tomato seedlings,didnt read the label properly duh ..... Apparently the can produce around 100 tomatoes on each plant, so we will be right for cherry tomatoes lol

you can do a DIY worm farm at a cheaper price than buying the worm farm from bunnings, we use those foam boxes you get from the supermarkets if you want to know more  let me know i will tell you how to do it.

 we do a lot of our vegies from seed too. onion chives are always good to have in the garden  as you just cut what you want and they re grow, plus spead so you have more.  we have about 3 varieties of mint, apple mint is divine and just tastes like apples, and peppermint and spearmint, plus the regular, we also have a few different thyme pizza thyme is  yum.

The best tomato plant we had one year was called Mr. Ugly it was just full of flavour and it was fleshy fruit not hollow like some you get   each year we like to try and new variety to see what it's like
