These comments on the Pravda website.
Many more comments too. I'm sure many Australians, though not all, are very disappointed to have our country's leader spoken of this way. I've read lots of derogatory comments from various news websites from around the world and it seems he has trashed the position and how we are viewed by many other countries. And I stress not every country is knocking him but enough to know that he is not popular.
"Tony Abbott said today that he will "shirtfront" Russian president Vladimir Putin when the pair meet at the G20 meeting in Brisbane next month." Is this seriously how we treat other world leaders? What happened to open dialogue and discussion?
We were once so admired for our leaders as statesmen, from both sides of politics. Tony Abbott has brought much criticism and shame and embarrassment to the position. No matter what side of politics, the position of Prime Minister should be held with respect but when we have one in the position who bullies and insults world leaders, then it is their prerogative to comment.
It is going to take some doing to win back the respect we once held.

which doesn't look very supportive

so he is doing a bit of back tracking, maybe someone reminded him of his limited capabilities as a boxer.... limited capabilities should be his middle name.

Does anyone think President Putin will make a 'time' to have a meeting with the Australian PM, when he is in Australia?
I don't think so.

No, apparantly there wasn't a meeting set up in the first place so I don't know when he thought he was going to get the opportunity to 'shirt front' him. And there's probably no chance of one being set up now.
I'm still concerned about the "You bet you are" "You bet I am" comments.
Some other sites are commenting that it is pretty obvious that he was being fed his lines. And that is a real worry if our Prime Minister has to be fed lines to make comments and is unable to carry on a conversation without it. No way of knowing of course but it might explain his repetetive speech and delayed speech patterns. Others have said his behaviour is similar to Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher who were both diagnosed with alzheimers. It's interesting to see it play out and to see where it ends up. It's still making news which is unusual in the normal news cycle.
Either way, the fact is It's gone viral world wide. So much for me just being outraged and insulted along with a few posters on a communist mouthpiece newspaper.

Yes, I have seen TA quoted in print and they only include the You bet I am. They should quote exactly what he said even though it makes no sense at all!

He should be going about things in a manner suited to his position as Prime Minister, not the boxing kangaroo.

I think this all affair would be really funny, if it was not so embarrassing. But has anybody actually noticed how similar these 2 men are? They even walk with the same swagger. I think TA secretly admire Putin and would love to have as much power as Putin has. Except Putin knows how to behave and speak.
TA reminds me of little yappy JRT snapping at heals of a pitbull.
Anyway JB di some salvaging with Putin, so he may not snub TA when he comes over for the G20:
