9.00 am this morning Victoria has experienced a 5.9 earthquake which was originally thought to be a tremor.
Hopefully no one was injured!

Scariest thing ever!
Thought a truck had come through the front of my house.
Haven't found any damage yet - apart from heart failure on my part.

10-20 seconds of sustained shaking, no damage. Gentle rumbling sound. Holy sauerkraut, I was joking with a fellow board member just yesterday about the world exploring into pink custardโฆ

I was just coming in to ask how everyone here is
Lots and lots of Facebook friends (most I know in real life too) posted all at once about it
A friend in Canberra felt it too, plus a couple of friends in Sydney who live near the airport and near Sutherland who felt it
Holy cow ๐ฒ๐ณ

Holy Cow alright.
Did the BOM nod off - there is usually some warning of something of this magnitude.

I don't think there's ever any warning signs of earthquakes.
Experts have warned Victorians to prepare for aftershocks, which could continue for months.
"There is a small likelihood that there could be a larger event but we'll see as we go," Mr Pascale said.

I hope you are all OK!

Itโs been felt everywhere apparently. People on our local fb pages mentioned it at 0910hrs. I was outside at that time but I didnโt feel it. Also felt in many other towns across central western NSW.
Iโve not known an earthquake to be felt by such an expansive area before. From Melbourne to Canberra to Sydney and everywhere in between.
(I hope we donโt break off and go floating across the ocean) ๐๐

That building is a lovely old one... a lot of history there. It definitely suffered more than most buildings in the wake of this earthquake.
UPDATE: the trees of the neighbour behind our property have struck again. Some further branches have fallen onto our back garden as a result of the tremors, and the tree that is uprooted in their property has leaned more heavily upon the top of the fence. I am so tempted to don my mask and drive to the next street and knock on the door of these lackadaisical neighbours, wielding my red chainsaw, and saying, "Let ME deal with the fallen tree since you won't..."
