Political threads have their place in social media but I do not think 'Community Spirit' is the place.
The vitriol and nastiness some of these threads engender, leading to claims of interpersonal posts, removal of posts and frequent locking of threads all damage any Community Spirit which previously existed.
Freedom of speech is to be applauded but the current rash of political threads is 'infecting' the spirit of the Community Spirit board.
Does anyone agree with me?
Would anyone else be prepared to communicate with the moderators requesting consideration of this suggestion?
I have.

CS does not have a large posting pool as it is. To move such a popular topic elsewhere would result in even less people posting, therefore, making the place even more stunted.
has it occured to you that the posting pool may have dwindled because of the volume of political posts here?
exactly. I know of many posters who dont come here as often because of all the political threads or that so many of the general threads end up being turned into political threads

So what should be the decider ? Posters who do post or posters who don't post ?
and why can't people just accept that different people like different things without making other members of the community feel that what they like to discuss is unwelcome ?

there are threads I don't like.Threads I have no interest in.It would be rude of me imo to expect that they should go somewhere else simply because of my own personal likes and dislikes.

I always find it fascinating that people continue to suggest this or would prefer to ban the threads etc because they dont like reading them.
The easiest answer is DONT read them and start a thread of your own.
I note many of the posters that dont like the political threads and comment to that fact never actually start a thread themselves.
My suggestion to these people is start some threads on topics you want to talk about yourselves....
🙂

I have read that the most important factor in online communities is it's moderation.

You political chatters can have your own board to start thread after thread about politics. You can cut and paste till your hearts content and you wont have to deal with any of the non political threads.
Shoulod be a dream come true for some of you
i like both, non political and political - would like it even more if more people started more threads of all varieties.

Some folks like threads about cooking, others about TV soapies, To those with no interest in cooking and soapies they dont open them. The same with political threads.
I think moderating so that political comments are kept out of non political topics, so they dont get Hijacked is the way. That makes the choices easier.
It is when a political opinion voiced in one thread fuels antagonisitic behavior and continuation of the issue in another thread that you get problems

I don't think so, snarky non-political threads are my least favourite - they often cause problems for all sorts of reasons. Posters argue about all sorts of things, some seem to only pop up to have a swipe at someone, a lot of the time arguing over things that most of us don't even know the history of (and don't wish to know). Politics isn't just about which party has the best policies - some don't seem to understand what the word even means.
