Political threads have their place in social media but I do not think 'Community Spirit' is the place.
The vitriol and nastiness some of these threads engender, leading to claims of interpersonal posts, removal of posts and frequent locking of threads all damage any Community Spirit which previously existed.
Freedom of speech is to be applauded but the current rash of political threads is 'infecting' the spirit of the Community Spirit board.
Does anyone agree with me?
Would anyone else be prepared to communicate with the moderators requesting consideration of this suggestion?
I have.

I do go into the odd political thread but in the end, they get so rude and nasty that i leave them.
They are the threads the mods seem to have to post on the most about keeping it poilte and they are the threads the mods seem to have to "lock" the most.
Get rid of them. Put them on their own board.
And dont tell me just to not look at them or start other threads.
If you want to look at them, go look at them on another board.
As for starting other thread, geez, there are at least 20 political threads on page 1 at the moment. Any new ones started just get lost amongst them
If they are interesting enough they won't get lost.

CS does not have a large posting pool as it is. To move such a popular topic elsewhere would result in even less people posting, therefore, making the place even more stunted. Begin and/or contribute to threads that interest you and avoid threads that annoy you. Perhaps some sort of compromise could be reached to accommodate those who have yet to master the back button.

It's a little strange really, I could understand it if there were only x amount of threads allowed per day and the political threads were taking more than there fair share but otherwise............it's like being at a dinner party and complaining that there is too much food, don't eat it.

Do mods have any say in creation of new boards?. I doubt it.
This board is for general discussion topics, including politics.
A moderators job is to moderate any posts that require doing so in any thread, it is not their job to give opinions on whether political threads have a place here or not (or post their own opinions on anything)

If the political threads were moved out, Blue cat, I agree with what you wrote. A few threads up the top of page 1 might move very slowly that is about it. If people won't start new threads now on general topics, they aren't going to start doing it just because there are no political threads anymore.. that doesn't make sense. Heaps of political threads is not a reason to deter posters from starting new threads on any topic.

has it occured to you that the posting pool may have dwindled because of the volume of political posts here?
Begin and/or contribute to threads that interest you
all well and good but it's very discouraging to start a general interest thread only to find it swamped down and onto the 2nd page by posters whose sole interest is in posting on or starting political threads. people in the past complained that fun & games threads were swamping the board and they were moved onto a separate board. now the political threads have taken over from the fun & games threads, the same should be done.
and avoid threads that annoy you. Perhaps some sort of compromise could be reached to accommodate those who have yet to master the back button.
such as?

How on earth did you survive during CW days when posts would fly and end up on page 2 or 3 within a matter of hours if not minutes? The change-over to CS resulted in a large number of people leaving with the majority not returning. Even though there are now a number of new posters their number is not high enough for the boards to bounce back.
Making one post is all it takes to bump a thread. If there is interest, the thread will continue, if not, well, it won't. No need for foot stamping simply because there are too many threads based on a particular topic that you don't like. Yes, I understand the frustration when threads/topics are repetitious and numerous but such is life.
Perhaps a limit of topics per day per poster might help of would that simply result in an influx of zero id's? Bringing back the ignore function would help as long as if it included threads begun by ignored posters.
