WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

That second guess was a fluke as my starting word had the first four letters. I didn’t use “stare”; I’ve been mixing it up, swapping occasionally with two other good start words lately.

Some of those words were quite challenging… not in that they were difficult or obscure, but in that solving one word did not necessarily help with the remaining words. A lot of the alphabet’s consonants were used.

I normally seem to take about 4 tries before I get it but in this case just tried the wrong variation. It always seems to be my luck, to strike a word where the letters I expose still leave about  2 or 3 possibles the word could be.

I am curious, countess. You seem to be up at ungodly hours, are you doing shift work or just having trouble sleeping?

I long for the day I get the first 4 letters in a  starting word!

As it was, I was reasonably happy to get through. I was convinced the top right word was something else for a moment till I noticed one of the letters it contained had already been tried and was a dud.

Like you, I have been trying different starting words. I have 3 stock words I sometimes use one after the other (unless I get some marvellous results first up) and they usually reveal a good few of the letters but it does mean no solving till turn 4 plus it gets a bit boring.

I have been playing on a different wordle site which gives unlimited wordles one after the other. I have fun trying new starter words on that, just to see where they go.
