WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

You did superbly with both Wordle and Octordle.

I try to keep the heating down or off unless it’s really needed; power bills are so relentless. Well, today was certainly cold enough to merit heating. Brrrr… and even now my toenails are rather cold. I don’t know where my incredibly warm socks are; could Ichabod have found them and hidden them?

Ah well.

Here we are, and it’s past midnight. I can sneak in some Wordle time.

I had a bad start but after turn 2, I had a little think. 

The first word to fly into my mind was croup but I decided that was unlikely and looked around for something else and voila. The answer.

But why, oh why does my mind always go to unlikely words?

You are right in that the second I saw that spot, the first word I wrote down as a possible was flier.

But then I thought.. plier, flies (unlikely) and so left it.

I found today's octordle reasonably easy and I have come to the conclusion the score is not so good because I didn't really do them in the proper solving order that i should have.

For example, I used a 3rd eliminator at turn 4 and flier was immediately obvious as the answer then, but I didn't paly it. the answer to #6 was pretty obvious too, but I didn't play it.

Instead I had a go at #4, with bread, which wasn't a sure thing, and got it wrong.

So nope, I didn't do exceptionally well. This is me we are talking about here. I did about my average but have to say, the answers were very easy to think of.  At least I didn't have to ponder.😁

You are so right. The order of solving can make or break the whole thing in Octordle.
