I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Oh happy day.😁
My first turn worked out well today, it gave me an idea of the probable pattern, but it still was not a sure thing.
I was lucky.

I did make a mistake about half way down. It was logical enough, just not the answer.🤔
#3 had me stumped for a while. But nothing else worked.
I think you will get it a lot quicker than I did though as it aligns with your interests.

That is a wonderful result - logical and inspired.
I’m trailing behind with my 3-row solution, but I just didn’t have enough to go on without an eliminator.

My eliminator was POUND.

52 again. It all hinges on getting that first word by no later than the 3rd row… and making no missteps after that.
TRACE as my starter, and SOUPY as my eliminator, helped to get me on track.

I refused to even consider that 4R was that US abomination “snuck”.

LOL. I was lucky in that I had the SHU start to it quite early on, so i didn't need to consider it.
But what is the betting they try to sneak it in some time down the track?

I wouldn’t put anything past the Octordle Overlord. But if they do use that word, it won’t snicker for long for I shall give it a sound beating.

As you can see, I deviated from the norm on turn 2.
Given the letters I had eliminated, the answer was the only word I could think of and luckily for me, it was 'it'.

I made a mistake in this, which set me back.
But while I was doing this, I had an eerie feeling of deja vu.
I'm almost sure we have seen a number of these words in the word games, and fairly recently at that.

My usual starter allied with a useful eliminator did give me a seamless solving meander.
SPOIL
… and I began solving on row 3, for 2L:

SQUIB 9️⃣4️⃣ CHEST
SCENT 3️⃣5️⃣ CABAL
KNAVE 7️⃣8️⃣ VENUE
UDDER 🔟6️⃣ FROCK

A few pitfalls avoided…
• 4R - I knew it couldn’t be CROCK or BROCK because of 1R and 2R.
• I knew 1L wasn’t SQUID because of 2R.
• 4L might have RUDER - pure luck that I didn’t try that instead of UDDER.
