WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

No; I started with my usual.

AMEND
KNEAD

I decided that there was a strong possibility of no additional vowels, so my eliminator was focused on letter pattern and possible consonants to help shape the word.

I realised after row 2 what that shape must be, and in fact, what the word must be.

TRACE again for my starter.

This was somewhat frustrating, as nothing helped to reveal 4L’s first letter throughout the process of octordling. I risked a guess (as it was 1 in 3), but was wrong. Tried again, and at least that time was correct.

I don't use the same starter each day.  I just use a word that has meaning to me at the time of doing the puzzle. Have used B!TCH at times, and some other choice words that would surprise some 🤫

That made me laugh. I have sometimes changed my starters. I had a list of different starters there at one time, not sure where i put that notebook.

I don't always use my second eliminator and sometimes I reverse the order of my usual 2 words, but not today. Usual starter, follwed by a guess at the word (wrong) but it did yield the clue to the answer.

I had a laugh at this too as I was in exactly the same position. Thatw as my last word to solve as I kept hoping for a lead.

I knew it could not be piper, so that left riper or viper.  I went for viper only because I seem to recall going for piper a week or so ago and I got it wrong, it was riper. Or vice versa, I can't remember exactly. But I figured they may be sneaky enough to ring the changes today.

I also took a risk on the last word, trying out bland instead of gland. I could so easily have been wrong.

I made a mistake on #5, trying jelly. At least that told me the L had to start the word and I guessed it necxt turn.

Overall, happy with my score today though. Anything under 60 is a happy dance day.

Ps I have just had an idle look at your octordle results order. It is a bit hard to make out on the computer screen (possibly is darker on phone) but I think we solved in exactly the same order today!!! What are the chances!!! Must be hundreds to one.😳 I am amazed.

This quite easily may have taken 5.

I can't do spoilers on my mobile, so I'll just say I went with State of Origin themed words for line 1 & 2.

Power outage. I was in the middle of writing; abrupt darkness collapsed upon me and the computer fell into the chasm of offness.

In frustration, let us Octordle.

This worked well. It wasn’t hard to solve 4R, and 1R solved itself, so to speak.

2L couldn’t be anything else. The whole thing just oozed along without a hitch.

Then I looked at 3R. Canny? But I saw 4L looking very obviously sauna-like, so I solved that one first. I’m glad I did; there were no Ns in 3R! Misstep avoided: it was cabby. (I use the spelling “cabbie” so this was a narrow escape for me.)
