WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I don’t think I played a good eliminator, even though it gave me the answer. That feels like undeserved luck. I’m not pleased with my play and I have got to do better.

I deviated from my norm today. I had a feeling after turn 1 that some of the letters in my usual second word were somewhat unlikely to be in the word. I could think of a fair few possibilities so used  the next two words cutting out what I thought of as more likely letters.

I am not that impressed with the answer today. American. Wish they would just stick to more universal words and spelling.

I found the game a bit of a minefield today.

Looking at #7, I was thinking, clout or flout? Then looking at #4, glint or flint?
I thought... probably an F in there somewhere & I think it will be flout. Wrong. However, it solved #4 for me.

Like you, springyzone, I am a little fed up with the US spelling. Sometimes my brain won’t come up very swiftly with a possible answer because the spelling used isn’t intuitive to those living in the UK or Australia.

Today’s Octordle was too easy for me, given my starter and eliminator. I had a plethora of solvable words all along the way. Too much so!

GHOUL <- Oh ho ho! Look at the possibilities!

I now knew that 1L must be “while” (as pattern is _H_LE with no O or U). I knew also that 1R was probably _AGLE (therefore probably “eagle”), that 2L must be either T_R_E or T__RE without an H, so possibly “terse”, that 3L was probably “going”, that 4L was definitely “clout”, and 4L was either “curse” or “curve”.

Even though I had all 5 letters for #8 after turn 3, it took me a while to put it together.

I made a mistake on first letter for #7. I knew it was out of 2 but decided my version was more likely. It went as well as it usually does when I take a risk.🤣

Had to use another eliminator towards the end as I ran out of inspiration.

I feel like the word for #1 could be given a rest for a while.
