WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I probably should have guessed #5 after my first turn but nothing was occurring to me and I like to finish these in reasonable time so, ever onwards to shout.🤣 That gave me some inspiration.

I was pleased with #2, I only thought of it as it comes out regularly. Sometimes I feel as if I am one of Pavlov's dogs and being trained.
You'll greet an old friend on #4, hasn't been around for a while. makes me wonder if we are about to see a resurgence of all the dances as they have died out lately too.

I had #4 marked in my mind as tribe or trice. I fancied tribe.
I never even thought of trite, to be honest.
If I had, I could have used an eliminator instead of just going for tribe, but at that point I figured 2 words, 2 turns, what could go wrong?🤣

I could see 7 possible answers… I almost decided to play an eliminator, but then checked myself. There was a possible answer (highly likely as well) which could also rule out every other possible word that wasn’t the answer.

This was such a pleasing Wordle; it had a clean and elegant solution.

TRACE gave me _ r_cE (capitals denoting letters in the correct position). The possible answers were: chore curse curve lucre ochre score sucre. I almost decided to use CLOSE … but then realised that SCORE would also work as a perfect eliminator… and it might even be the answer.

I’d end up with one of the following:
_cORE sc_rE _c_rE _c_RE _C_RE Sc_RE (depending on the answer).

This Daily Octordle was perfect – a textbook process and result. And yet… after my opening word, I was dismayed and left with no clue as to what any of the solutions might be.

I made a couple of mistakes along the way, but at least they were logical or possible answers.
On turn 4 I tried trill for #2.
And right at the end for #6, I could see that jaunt and vaunt were the 2 possibilities (having eliminated the gaunt/daunt/haunt/taunt choices) so i just had to choose one and go with it. I chose jaunt and was wrong. *sigh* no surprises there. 😂

I was very annoyed at this extreme octordle.

I was going slowly, trying not to fall in a hole (and it paid off with #1 & 2 where I was debating vegan or pecan, or utile/tulle), but I made a mistake on #8 where I tried ebony. Logical enough but wrong. Had not thought of ozone at that point though heaven knows, it is a regular.

But what annoyed me most was #5. Exactly the same dilemma as in the classic game, was it vaunt or jaunt?

I actually went back to the classic to double check on the answer & when i saw it was vaunt, I thought.. they will probably go with jaunt this time, not the same word.

I was wrong.😂
