I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Well, this is embarrassing. I live in hope of one day giving you some decent results but May is not looking like the month for it.
Maybe it was too early in the monring (it was about 6am when I did it). That's my excuse, anyway.😂

After my first couple of turns, I really fancied the answer to #3 straight off, but there was another very possible answer. Same with #7.
The trouble with extreme is you can't afford to waste a turn on a wrong answer as you only get one spare turn (after your first couple) so i decided to play it safe and go for another eliminator, rather than risk a guess.
At that point I had 4 down as maybe mouth or touch (not tough as I think that was out recently?)
And I had thought 8 might be among.
So that 3rd turn really helped to sort things but of course I paid the price, score wise.

That starter result reminds me of Alex Horne on Taskmaster saying “All the information is on the task”. It’s blank-faced and of no actual help.
But I lucked out with the eliminator.

This was mostly a process of logic, but the starter set my first two steps with enough information to plunge in straightaway.

I was tempted to make a guess at 1R (#2) but it was a 1 in 3. Better to play it safe.

Spoiler
Today's mistakes revolved around not taking adequate note of the fact that yellow means the letter doesn't go there.
After my first 2 turns, I felt uninspired. I actually fancied clung for #4, but it wasn't the only possible answer as you can see.
But I looked at #1 and thought of course, got to be chant. I actually stopped to consider if any other letter could go in first spot in that pattern. And of course I wasn't paying attention, I already knew the T could not go on the end. So mistake there.
After that, it was easy enough, though for a while I was still looking at #7 as probably a word with A in 3rd place, till I had a better look towards the end. But at least i never fell in any more potholes. Too late though, damage done.
Yes, darn it - if you do fall into one of those early potholes, Octordle fines you heavily!
The only real comfort is that you didn’t have any more ruts in the road for the rest of it. You’d have had a lovely 52 without that early misstep.

SpoilerI used pricy and it diverted my attention, for sure. I was surprised a bit to see a Y pop up for #4 and #8.

It was sheer bad luck, springyzone. With the right eliminator, it would have been another story.
Yes… if you use a second eliminator straight off (row 3), then it automatically means the best score achievable is 60. It’s cruel.
