I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

This was actually easy enough, it is just there was no clear cut answer for me after my first 2 turns so i went with another eliminator.
Actually, nothing felt fresh about this puzzle, there are far too many of the same old, same old and I am very annoyed.
Why keep recycling those tired ones when some perfectly acceptable fresh words which they recognise eg alien 😁, are just there for the taking.

It could have been gored, or roger, but gofer was the option that stood out to me.
Ah, it comes back to me now.
I can't reconstruct it on anything but I remember going
alien (must have been a green E)
shout (must have been a yellow O)
fudgy (which gave me yellow F &G)
I could guess a likely R ending but I remember now thinking, you have to be kidding me-gofer? GOFER?? But it was all that would fit, so I got it in four.
But I didn't like it.

It seems strange that there was no “n” in this Octordle. It fooled me with that final word in 3R.

Yes, it does seem unfair that we don’t have an alien or two running around in Octordle!
What about a jolly alien doing the tango?

After the eliminator, it was a strong temptation to play thing for 2R, but I knew it could be toing (as in toing and froing) or tying again as well. Part of me was saying “It can’t be tying because that’s just appeared in the Daily Classic”; another part was murmuring dryly, “Oh yes? Aren’t you forgetting just how depraved and twisted Octordle can be?” Better to hold off and play 3L first as it was a definite agent.
Now I was faced with 2L, 2R and 3L, which were narrowed down to within a guess or so. 2L was the toughest with forte, route, outré and store. 2R was down to guise or guide, and 3L was now down to thing or tying. I took a guess with guide - luckily correctly.
And still it was guess time! I had 2L down to forte or store, or it was the tying/thing choice. I played forte - luck was still on my side.
4L was now daily (or Iliad, but it’s a proper name so enormously unlikely). Daily it was.
Finally I had 2R in my hands: tying. Oh, Octordle, you are depraved and twisted!
With only 1L and 1R left, 1R was best left until last; it could have been droop or dross. Since 1L was clearly alloy, it would resolve 1R by the absence or presence of O in 4th position.
And there it was.

Yes, it probably is.
Why use a new word when there are several they can recycle?
Plus they adore the word beefy lately.
