WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Nerve-wracking! But I had an excellent start, and I avoided a trap which had felled me in an earlier Octordle.

I felt nervously lucky after instantly getting 4R, and in that mood I made a guess at 2L. It felt somehow inevitable that I’d have the right answer. Ditto with 1L and 2R.

Then I lost my confidence as I faced 3L. It was ___CE, with a yellow I. That meant mince or niece. I couldn’t make up my mind, and the rest of the board also looked sparse. I decided upon playing an eliminator, so I played fungo. Well! That ruled out mince.

I could now solve 1R. 3L still had the possibility of brash as I’d not been able to rule out H; perhaps I should have used hound as my eliminator, but it wouldn’t have ruled out mince and I would probably have stumbled over that. Ah well. I had luck on my side and played brass.

I’d left 1L until last. There was the same old dilemma awaiting me: otter or other. This had come up just recently - and I’d wrongly gone for other. Would Octordle have changed its tactics? Was it other this time? Or was it out to catch me in the same trap?

This time … I beat it. Take that, you sneaky Octordle!

You had #5 in the bag as well at that point: very nicely set up!

That last word was a mean little bit of trickery from Octordle, but at least you solved it in the next row. 🏆

I told you I played that game badly, jumping in when I should have made a move elsewhere etc. I don't know why I was fixated on spoon or sporn. I was just lucky I didn't think of all the other possibilities. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

I haven't had a great day with the puzzles today either.

I didn't feel confident with anything after my first 2 turns but in hindsight, I am kicking myself as #7 was obvious. I used pricy as my 3rd turn and everything fell into place after that but of course the score was always going to be rubbish. I am still not sure why I didn't try churn much earlier, my concentration was elsewhere.

I thought it was worth taking a risk on turn 3 with spill as I felt it had a good chance of popping up in either #1 or #4. Plus I suspected P in #3. I wasn't quite game to make the call about skill/swill though.

At the end, I was torn between grass/brass for #6 and voter/otter for #7.
I don't know what it is with voter, I seem to have a fixation on it lately.If I had had to guess, I would have gone grass/voter, so that would have ended well!😂

My eliminator was giver.

Having a, e and L with L in place on my first turn was a bonus. A lucky break.
I thought it unlikely there would be any other vowels in the word & thought it would end in either an a_e or ea_ pattern. 
But only a few letters really work before L. 
I always fancy S and I thought T was in with a chance (slate/plate), so my second word was pacts.

Missed a 52 by just this much!!!

I was aggravated to see 4 exposed lettrs in #6 and I still couldn't confidently make a guess.
First word to pop into mind was nails (but pigs might fly for that one!) But then, maybe snail or final. Lucky I left that one alone!
But #1. Early on, it was clear this could easily be a drill, grill or frill. Maybe even a krill. I used faked as eliminator. Spent time debating that or fudge, but couldn't see my way clear without an extra eliminator.

Very annoying. I was determined to try to be a bit more alert today.
I was tempted, oh so tempted, to try alter for #8 on my second try. Just in time I saw that alley was also possible.
I was pretty pleased with how things went after that, but pride before a fall etc.
I agonised over rupee or puree for #2, but on the whole, they tend to use puree more.
And the octordle gods were smiling, as puree solved that classic dilemma at #1 for me.

But I fell at the last hurdle with gusty instead of gutsy. Sneaky!
And there I had been, worried about about dusty/fusty/gusty/rusty at one stage. In hindsight, I should have 'solved' that before puree though, although I would been wrong.
