WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I know, not wonderful but at least I kept it under 60 today.

Spoiler
5 cl.jpgI wasn't feeling  much inspiration after turn 3. or too much. I don't know.
I was on the wrong track about a few, in any case.
For #6, I was thinking reach/beach etc and #4, rusty/dusty etc, #7 carol/coral/vocal/local,
#3 sober/sower

So I went with another eliminator (crowd).

I wanted primarily to drill down on the possible consonants. Even in retrospect, this eliminator couldn’t be bettered – and the 3rd row solution is satisfying.

This one was a tad easier.

I think we have a new word in it today though. It is one that I did not initially have in mind as a possibility at all, but it became obvious further down in the game.

My 5th turn was on a wing and a prayer, as I was tossing up between remit and debit.

Either though would have solved #8 for me. Up till then, I couldn't figure out how to get all the vowels in. All I kept seeing in my mind up till then was the word aisle, which of course it could not be!

2L was a small risk (1 in 2) and 3R was an repeat objection.

REHAB 🎯 I object! (again)

Gecko at 1L was nicely logical to resolve. There was a green E in 2nd position, and with the O ruled out of 3rd and 4th position (due to STOOP), it had to be 5th. The C was ruled out of 1st position because of CAROL, and out of 4th position because of TRACE, and there wasn’t anything else to fit the _EC_O pattern.

That second eliminator was actually a stroke of genius. Yes, it affected the score, but you uncovered vital letters and zipped through the rest of it with ease. There are times when the score just doesn’t reflect how well played a particular Octordle may be.

Thanks for saying my eliminator was a stroke of genius. That did make me laugh.

It was all I could think of at the time.

Ah well, another day done & dusted.

This didn't work out too badly as one word led to another for a while.

Spoiler
6 cl.jpgI did have a moment of worry with #1, debating brawn/drawn, but brawn seemed more likely. I guess it could have been prawn too but I only just thought of that.
Fell on the last hurdle, as I often seem to do, with plume instead of flume.

Just trying to remember what i did wrong here to blow the score out but I think I used another eliminator.

Yes, i did, crave.

Things started smoothly but by the mid point I was befogged (they would like that word).
I had in fact been rattled slightly on the turn before (turn 5) with pants as I had all the letters but could not believe a word would end in S, so i was worried about that one.

But then I was left with
#1, maybe couch or vouch
#6, shirt or shift
#7, borax or foamy
#8, edict or evict
#3, all I could think of was carpe.

Luckily, crave sorted some words out and I solved them before I tried #3, as I had not thought of that answer. That might be a new one on octordle. They are getting adventurous, an unused word 2 days in a row.
