WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I took a risk with 1R (cover), but my gut instinct was determined.

Everything else was completely logical.

I needed the H of whirl to solve ashen.

Even when I came to 4L, where I had only ___EL, nothing else would fit but bezel.

I needed the B of bezel to solve abled. I’d been inclined towards alley up to that point. CORRECTION: I had had alley cross my mind before I realised that of could it couldn’t be: double L was ruled out by spell. A moment’s silly inattention!

For 2L, I had _O___, with a yellow H (not in 3rd) and R (not in 4th or 5th). There was nothing that would fit save rough.

It’s 5:43 am… I can’t sleep with bad hayfever symptoms so I’ve just wordled.

Wordle 1,580 2/6

The eliminator was the quarry! Logic and luck combined gave it away.

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 CATTY 🎯

Possible solutions after the starter: yacht, catty, cacti, caput, antic, ascot, attic, octal, ducat.

Using catty as eliminator:

yacht = ygy_y

catty = ggggg (of course)

cacti = gg_g_

caput = ggy__

antic = yyg__  octal = yyg__ (same pattern)

ascot = yyy__  ducat = yyy__ (same pattern)

attic = yygy_

Using attic as eliminator:

yacht = yy__y  caput = yy__y  ducat = yy__y (same pattern)

catty = yyg_y

cacti = yy_yy

antic = g_ggg

octal = y_g_y

ascot = gy__y

attic = ggggg (of course)

They’re both excellent eliminators. I decided on catty because the very worst possible outcome would be 4 rows rather than 5. Most likely outcome would be 3 rows. As it turned out, I was lucky and the eliminator was the answer.

Three 1-in-2 guesses made things a little tricky, but I was fortunate enough to land on the correct words.

Row 2 guess was lucky; there were 4 other possible words. That got me off to a good start.

Re: WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

Yesterday I did it all on phone.

4 for wordle and the other two were about 54/59 I think.

Nothing amazing but not a disgrace either.

Today's wordle:

Wordle 1,580 4/6

🟨
🟨
🟨🟩
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

fter alien/shout, I was thinking words such as track or tatty, party and so on.

In other words, not a clue, as always.😂

So 3rd word was pricy and for some reason, my mind went to catty, but I was hoping it was not tacky.

Now this octordle really annoyed me. You certainly get marked down if you dare to use another eliminator (after the first two words) too early, but there's not a huge reward for good guesses early on.

In this one, I started solving at turn 2 & 3 and only used shout on turn 4.

My only mistake was towards the end in #1. There were only 2 things it could be (or that I could see, anyway) so it was a 50/50 chance but I made the wrong call.

Spoiler
16 cl.pngWhen I look at my 3rd turn. I realise it was a bit of a risk. I was trying to think what would fit a _a_el pattern and bagel was the first word to pop into my mind. Plus it is a word they use from time to time.
Later I thought... could have been hazel. Possibly other contenders too but that was all I thought of at the time.

Straight after turn 2, I looked at #7 and thought, here we go, another ound word so popular of late.

Spoiler
16. ex.pngFell on the last word. It was obvious from early on it was probably between siege and sieve.
The reason I went for siege was that at one point, I had been considering buggy for #4 & I wondered if they factored in that if someone made a mistake, at least the G would help in #8. Nope.
