WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

13 ex.jpgI wasn't all that happy after turn 2 as there wasn't much to show for it, but knell just jumped into my mind as it could not be kneel. And #4 could not be raise, but I thought that was the probable vowel pattern and waive was all I could come up with otherwise.
After that, they fell into place but not without a think.

After which, my first thought was pupil.
Then I had a little bit more of a think and came up with lurid and lucid.
There may be dozens more, I don't know, but those are the ones I could think of, off hand.
I really fancied pupil, but we know how reliable my fancies are, so i thought an eliminator might be safer, just in case.
I tried pricy, which cut out the P & C so I just went with lurid.

Another day of disappointment. I live in hope of breaking through to the 40s again one day but this week is obviously not going to be it!14 cl.jpg

Things started pleasantly enough, with very easy solves. I was on a roll for a while.

#2 looked like being a pain though, with about half a dozen possible starters.

I actually thought of tepee after turn 5 but stopped myself as I thought.. there must be other things it could be. Should have just done it, no guts no glory, as they say.

But anyway, went with eliminator pudgy, on the basis C had already been out so didn't want pricy, but I did want the P.

Got there eventually.

Can't complain.

Well, I can, but at least it is under 60.

14 ex.jpgThis started off smoothly enough after turn 2. I had tentatively marked #5 as maybe pitch but luckily the Y came up early on.

I like the solution! It’s such a pleasingly expressive word, and I can hear the colours of it when I look at its shape.

🟨🟩 SOUND <- eliminator

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 LURID 🎯

By its colours, I mean that the sound of the word is acid green and cherry red when I read the word or hear it spoken. Do you find that certain words simply fit their meaning like this? The spelling of it, the shape of each letter in context of the whole word, the way one’s face looks when speaking the word…

Anyway, this was the only solution after the eliminator.

I had no clear way through the final thorns, and chose the wrong word. I felt like the prince in Sleeping Beauty hacking at a recalcitrant tangle of thorny growth before finally clearing a way.

I think you chose an excellent second eliminator. At that point, there really wasn’t any certainty for the remaining words.

The first thing I thought of straight after turn 2 was flung/clung (in no particular order or preference).
But then I thought, hang on a minute. clunk, flunk, maybe plunk (more unlikely).
So my 3rd word was flock

Well, today was another average day, I am afraid. Some mistakes, although honourable mistakes, rather than just plain stupidity.

I was going okay for a while. I really fancied cower or cover for #3, except R was ruled out, but I got there in the end.
#2, caught out on the last word of the day. I should have thought of magma as it has been out a few times in the past.
