WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I started with CATER, then MOULD.

Huge difficulty in accessing Wordle today; I ended up having to download the app and playing it there. But there’s no bot feedback without an account, and I don’t want a NYT account.

Thank goodness you mentioned this as wordle has been a bit glitchy for a few days for me. Sometimes it times out rather than opening. Today I did it but I just hope I saved my results as I can't open it right now!

Bot wasn't happy with my 3rd guess but loved my 4th.

I was really stumped as to what this word could be for a while.

PS I have a free NY times account on the computer but not an app as far as I know.

I don't have the NY times account on my phone.  My poor old phone would collapse if I tried to put an app on it, it already feels it is overworked & keeps telling me it is dangerously low on space. Stern warnings, as bad as Bot.

The answer included some letters that just aren't in my usual eliminators so it was a matter of plodding through.  Bot wasn't overly impressed but I can't see that some of his suggestions would have been that much more helpful.

On the other hand, I had a dream run on octordle as all my guesses worked out.

I did sit there wondering what to put for #3 as I had 4 of the letters and could guess the likely 5th, but those 5 letters could make 2 possible words. I happened to choose the right one, which was down to luck.

I honestly don't think I can do better than 52, ever, unless one of my first two words gave me the answer or so many letters that I could guess from turn 2 onwards.

I started with TRACE, then BOUGH. Still nothing but that first yellow… Finally I played SPIKY, and my nostrils quivered with the scent of prey. Aha! I had the word cornered!

But it took 4 guesses. Springyzone, I suspect many Wordlers would need at least the 4 guesses to get there with today’s puzzle.
