WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I actually feel reasonably satisfied with this.

I went carefully but the first word (you guessed it, alien) did not yield much.
Shout was better but I was left with several possibilities for almost all of the 8 words.
I was able to guess #6 at turn 3, but needed an eliminator for turn 4, then turn 5 I tried bough, feeling reasonably confident as I had eliminated the possibilities of cough/couch/pouch-but had not thought of dough.
After that, I was happy at how things went, one answer led to another etc, but the damage(to score) was done at turns 3 & 4.

My starter gave me very little… but my eliminator picked up the slack and left me with a 1 in 3 chance of solving the word on my next row.

I played a safe game - avoiding the word that I nearly had until I could be sure of one particular letter.

I so nearly played a guess for 2L, as I knew it was CRA_E after my starter. But it could be crave, crane, craze, even cr@pe (my normal word was bleeped) or crake… and that’s why I played an eliminator.

Yes, any early hesitation or error is costly. Octordle is ruthless.

There was some degree of luck with my eliminator, but as you know, I acknowledge the role of luck and gut instinct (usually based on previous patterns or cumulative likelihood as well as the letters to hand)

My instincts were telling me “Double letters; that’s just what Wordle would do” - so I bypassed other possible solutions of diner, finer, miner, winer, infer (and far less likely niner or piner).
