Washing Machines which brand and why?

Sorry to totally theive your idea Lurker, and I know this is really not the most interesting of topics but my washing machine has carked it 😞  I have a budget of $650 to spend and it has to be at least 6.5-7.5 kgs.  Is there anyone around who considers themselves knowledgable on this topic, or what machine to you have and what are it's pros and cons in your opinion.  All advice/opinions welcome 🙂

Re: Washing Machines which brand and why?

Before I bought my Lg front loader I bought a simpson ezyset951 top loader,  The machine was installed for 1 week and did 5 loads of washing for our 2 person household so wasn't abused, The machine Died during the 5th load with smoke comming out from the motor, I had the machine replaced by harvey norman which were fantastic, The replacement was another simpson same model as mentioned above this machine lasted a month and died again of a electrical fault, So they replaced that machine and i sold it on Gumtree which was a $780 unit for $200 as i just couldn't risk the chance.  I haven't heard any news from the people so i assume it is working fine.

I have had many Simpson washers over the years which is why i repurchased the brand now made by Electrolux in thailand

They have been flawless and always gave a good wash.

What i noticed with the new Simpson Washer was the agitation was rather sluggish even on heavy duty this was like it washed on delicate both machines were like this so this must be in the design with the normal cycle took 145mins and even most clothes just looked like they were wet and not clean at all, My white sheets looked disgusting worse after washing in my usual Omo and warm water so i can't blame omo as this has been my usual product for the last 30 odd years.

The Simpson washers are just a big shame on what was a wonderful no fuss machine, The machine also had a terrible lint system which seemed to leave all over everything, I always seperate my clothes from linty fabrics etc so it certainly not to do with mixing fabrics. I also have to mention the beeping for some reason both machines beeped on each agitate very very annoying and which can't be swiched off so it will also beep at you till you go and lift the lid when it's done. Over all it is the worst machine i have ever encounted.

Now My new Lg Front loader 10kg (3 months  old)  is a dream it does everything and anything i throw in there without any fuss very little noise and 1 small tune at the end of the cycle and not very long cycle times for a normal wash even has a quick wash feature which i use for very lightly soiled clothes, this machine is just fantastic although very expensive i'm very happy with this purchase so i bought my daughter one as well which she loves to bits. I highly regard this Brand. I love having the 10kg machine i couldn't do with a small machine.

Not sure if anyone remembers the twin tub washers Gosh those machines cleaned the dirt from the clothes very excellant work horses but only thing i disliked was how intensive the process was.

Re: Washing Machines which brand and why?

Someone suggested ebay is now using the boards to advertise ?   Anyone know if that's true ?

It was also suggested certain individuals can earn a few pennies by promoting certain products via the boards.   Is that true ?

Hi Polo,

I cant say I've ever notived anything like that.  I noticed someone started a dishwasher thread cos they were in the market to buy a new one and seeing as my reconditioned Simpson Esprit 750 died the other day I thought I'd ask for some advice from the kind posters here at CS as to the washers they like/dislike.

I really appreciate all the comments and you taking the time to elaborate on your experiences.  One of the salesman from the Goodguys today told me something kind of similar about the modern day machines.  TBH I've had a few secondhand machines now and I have found them to be way more trouble than they are worth.  But at the same time I'm not overly impressed with the new machines either but Harvey Norman do a full replacement warranty so thats enticing.

Someone told me the other day to just get the dumbest machine I can find lol.  I'm thinking I might take their advice 🙂

I have an LG, 7.5Kg, front loader. Four star water and energy saver.

I am very happy with the 30 minute quick wash, and I ony use cold water. It washes better than what my old toploader did, but the only trouble I have is my back when bending down to load and unload the washer.

Front loaders are great for people without back problems.

My parents got something like this for theirs.

Re: Washing Machines which brand and why?

I'm going to suggest Samsung only because mine has lasted 15yrs so far...

Thats interesting Meep, I was looking at a Samsung today, it was so cheap,  and I couldn't seem to find any "bad" reviews about Samsung washing Machines.  I was really tempted to buy it at $419 for a 6.5kg top loader.  I've had other Samsung appliances in the past and they have always been very reliable.  I didn't even really know until today that Samsung made washing machines.

Tomorrow is the day though, I haveto make my decision over night, plus the washing pile is steadily rising 😮

I know what will happen, I'll go into to get the machine I've chosen tomorrow morning, then I'll see one thats totally different or on a big special and I'll end up with that lol I'm such a sucker for the "specials"

Re: Washing Machines which brand and why?

meep, best product review i ever read in choice was about a  washing machine from aldi - they suggested you would be better off putting the clothes in a tub and jumping up and down on them.

Yes agree with you Choice is an excellent source for reviews. Still, some of us do like to chat about our whitegoods, if anyone had suggested to me 10 years ago that i would be doing it i would have laughed myself silly.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that some of you shouldn't chat about your whitegoods (does anyone remember the poster with the whitegoods fetish?)  I was simply responding to a particular post regarding product review websites, that was all.  Woman Happy

Re: Washing Machines which brand and why?

Nohousework and freakiness, thank you so much.

I have found a supplier not to far from us. The stand is $225.- with free delivery. It will be well worth the money to make washdays easier.
