We bought that computer with windows 7 and have another question...

every time we want to use the internet we have to go to that internet connection thingie and type in the password and name.

we cannot open the internet just by clicking on firefox.

we did save the password which makes it a bit less annoying but we don't really want to live with it like that.

aaarrrggghhhh!

If you've set it up for 2 users you'll have to reset the preferences in both lots of settings.

image.jpgHave you ticked "connect automatically"?

that means whenever your PC picks up the wifi signal from your router, it will connect using your saved password.

That should work for a wifi connection. For a Wired connection, where your PC is plugged into your router for the internet, there should also be a connect automatically box to tick in the settings.

Re: We bought that computer with windows 7 and have another question...

there is no problem using the computer. it's the internet.

i think it's LAN. there is a modem with cables.

i just looked at what karlie suggested and there doesn't seem to be a password yet because it says "create password" when i go there.

Re: We bought that computer with windows 7 and have another question...

it doesn't just want a password.

it wants our westnet account password with the westnet account name.

i have to go to:

network and internet -> network and sharing centre -> connect to network ->

and then it says that the network is not connected, then i click on "connect" and then it wants the westnet  account  and password

i thought that there must be a box somewhere that says "connect automatically" or something like that which is unticked but i haven't found one yet.

Did you go through the process of setting up a network on the new computer?

It sounds like the new computer isn't recognizing the connect auto option.

so, what you are saying is that once you put in the requested password(s), you get on to the internet OK?  Do you have the opportunity, after you enter the password, to save it?

I had a similar problem when I first installed Windows 7 - I use Chrome. But, after I shut the system down in disgust, and later rebooted, it came OK. I think it may have been the 'blessings' I placed on it - lol.

It just goes to highlight one of the problems of this forum, some posters read what is written and without hesitation put their incorrect assumption on what they have read and proceed to give advice on the erroneous assumption. No wonder there is so much misunderstanding here that leads to confusion and arguments more often than not.

Didn't you do that when you said in the buying a computer thread the price didn't include case, etc?

If it wants your internet provider password, that means you haven't yet set up and Saved, the internet connection. If you call your provider they should be able to talk you through it 🙂

I was thinking along the lines of, it seems that you haven't set up the new comp to auto connect.  It sounds like a guest comp that has to sign in each time you use it.

Once you set the network for that new computer it should just connect when you use it, automatically.
