wow Sandy well done!!
I think regular excercise and cutting down a bit on food we know is bad is the key . it's more sustainable long term. So as long as you're doing some sort of regular excercise every day, it does make a difference and walking is a good one to fit into your lifestyle.
so Lobs even when you really don't feel like doing it, force yourself to stick to a routine, whether it's the same time every day or just when you can fit it in.

Finally starting to feel better now that this nasty cold is easing off. Took the dogs for an hour long walk this morning. Feel knackered now lol. Also did some Just Dance 2 on the Wii yesterday, gets you sweatin that does.
Even if I'm not losing heaps of weight, I feel good just doing something 🙂

I work at Woolworths and one of the girls came up with the idea of a Biggest Loser competition. We all paid $15 to be a part of it, and at the end of 8 weeks, he/she who has lost the most body fat gets the kitty. They're using the same formula to calculate the percentage lost as they use on that program. I go to Curves every day and walk for an hour every afternoon, and I use a really good little app call MyFitnessPal to count my calories, so far I've lost 6 kilos and couldn't be happier.

Yeah it really is, it scores you as well which is kinda fun, we also have wii fit, it's a good one to keep track of your weight loss and it does body tests and stuff like that. Picked it up from a garage sale for thirty bucks, they are everywhere now seeing as all the games consoles have up graded recently, you can pick them up real cheap 🙂

That MyFitnessPal app is a great tool too, Tay (tongue twister!). I use that to look up foods and it also syncs with the Fitbit programme and logs your calories on there.

I'm not bragging, just letting you know what I do and it's slowly working. I have lost over 40kgs over the past 12 months and all I do is walk for an hour nearly every day - no other exercise. I started mainly because of my diabetes and the dr threatening insulin so of course I eat very little sugar and not a lot of carbs. I love cream cakes but resist those most times
.
If I really crave something, I will have a small amount and even though I do eat bread, pasta and potato, I don't eat a lot. I eat multi-grain bread and if having a roast, only have 1 half potato.
We have just been on holidays - only for a week - and I put on 3 kgs even though I still walked and watched what I was eating. I did have the odd single cone of home made icecream (so yummy!). I did find that once home and being extra careful, it came off just as quick. Obviously eating out did not help either - I did have chips quite a bit.
Good luck to you all - I do know how hard it is but I really think walking is the way to go. I also think the brain needs to be in the right place.
I'm surprised someone who has lost 40 kilos needs to be told that eating chips "quite a bit" and snacking on "home made icecream" can put on weight. You have not changed your mental outlook; your relationship with food is the same as before and you are destined to put the weight back on.
After all your hard work, you have to accept such treats are off limit - for life. Consider yourself a drug addict - and unhealthy food is your heroin. Junkies can't just have "a little bit of heroin" - it always snowballs, just like food addiction.
There are many healthy options when you go away on holidays - tuna salad, vegatable appetisers. And eating out is no excuse - it's actually easier as you have more choice and don't have to prepare.
Also exercise only counts for 10-20% of weight loss. Exercise may tone your body, give you more energy and make you look healthier but it's really the food you put in your mouth that determines successful loss of kilos.
Oh dear xixhuhan, not quite correct again - most weight loss experts will tell you that a "treat" every now and again, some say weekly is not only OK but highly recommended, whether it be chips, cake, whatever.

Wow, I underestimated your obliviousness. I stated facts, you stated your opinion, which is wrong. "Most" weight loss experts recommend substituting treats with something low fat - instead of fried battered fish - steamed salmon, for instance. Or better yet, replacing a treat with a glass of water, a brisk walk, a dressing-free salad. Diets and maintenance aren't fun or fair but that's life.
Just because you cheat, it's irresponsible of you to encourage this in others. It's not like you have lost 40 kilos. 😉
No, or I would be dead.

I remember reading a magazine survey of the major weightloss industy heavies regarding their tips for coping with Christmas. They all had long lists of does and don'ts - all except Weightwatchers. The WW spokesperson said "it's not what you eat between Christmas Day and New Year that will do the damage; it's what you eat between New Years Day and Christmas. It's a special occasion, eat whatever you want.
Weight Watchers never forbid you to eat anything - they just suggest that if you want an occasional treat you 'save up' fo rfirst it or 'pay it back' afterwards. It's about being sensible - not being a martyr.
