Who should they target first? Or last?

Anger is a negative emotion. Controlling it is positive 🙂

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: Welfare Reform suggestions

Friends of ADCA have established a petition to the Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, asking that the decision to withdraw funding from ADCA be reconsidered and funding restored.  The comments make interesting reading.

You can sign the petition and share with your friends and networks by following the link atwww.change.org/petitions/save-adca

26 Nov 2013 Alcohol and Other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA) (Administrator Appointed) - Defunded

Minister Fiona Nash, the Commonwealth Government’s Assistant Minister for Health has decided not to continue ADCA's funding. This includes core funding, along with all project funding, effective immediately.

Minister Nash's decision ignores previous undertakings and commitment provided to ADCA in April 2013 about ongoing funding for ADCA to 2015.

ADCA was informed of this late yesterday, and was advised it was part of the government’s budget deficit reduction strategy

As a consequence, the ADCA Board decided last evening to place ADCA into voluntary administration and to appoint an administrator.

The ADCA Board will continue to work with the administrator, emphasising the critical support which ADCA provides to the AOD sector and national community public health.

izab, so are you "white with rage", ooops, wrong thread. Back to welfare reform - lets get rid of welfare to the well off, the percentage of welfare that goes to the middle class is quite high, if its absolutely necessary to start austerity measures (which it isn') then that money should be stopped first.

When someone you love is addicted to a substance that wrecks their brain, wrecks their career, wrecks their relationships with everyone they know, abuses their wife/partner/husband/children, puts them into debt, makes them lose jobs and makes them lose their freakin' mind - then come back us give us all another lecture.

I used to travel from Albion Park to Lidcombe to work
Up at 4:30 am. After breakfast walked 3 kilometers to the railway station. In Sydney by about 8am,then a train to Lidcombe.I got there by about 8:30.Finished at 5:00pm and arrived back home by 9:00pm. It isn't fun doing that 5 days a week.By the time the weekend arrived all I felt like doing was sleep. There were people commuting from Nowra which meant they were up at 3:30am and not arriving home until about 10pm:(

Plenty of ppl travel to work in Sydney from regional areas like the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong, each around 2 hours travel one way.

Wollongong is not 2 hours from Sydney CBD.

People make their own choice (lifestyle.. by the beach, smaller communities) to live in those areas, no one forces them too.

I have lived in this town for practically all my life, I can't afford to move any closer to Melbourne.

Buzz, do you think that the person you have described above should have my sympathy? Are you in favour of funding such a person?

What a horrible experience.

I once worked with a woman who travelled from Newcastle to Sydney city every day. She had two kids aged about 6 and 8. She was a wreck all day - tired, worried etc. She thought she was on a career track and that's why she did it. I quit and got out LONG before I had kids. I often wonder about her and her kids. That was no way to live. They had no family life whatsoever.
