I saw this posted on my Facebook page. So much for his promise to stop the boats. Seems like we might have a few more landing on our shores now.
SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES: There could be an influx of asylum seekers in the wake of Australia’s spying scandal.
A senior Indonesian immigration official has apparently told local media he will no longer take measures to stop asylum seekers trying to reach our waters.
We’ll bring you full political coverage tonight in our evening bulletin on Channel 9.

I don't see Kevin Rudd rushing back from whereever he is to assist in solving this catastrophe, he has his head up his proverbial laughing his head off at the terrible mess greated while HE was PM.
I think Tony Abbott is being very diplomatic and strong, we cant just apologise for something that SBY is upset about when the Indonesians do the same thing.
We don't burn their flag, we don't threaten to hurt Indonesians in Australia, the difference is we are a better overall educated people who don't threaten violence at the drop of a hat because our ego is a bit bruised.
I will never visit there again.
So true and while we are at it cease giving them over 650 million a year.

Agree KG, I cannot understand these people who are so quick to critisize without giving the new government a reasonable go, Labor had 6 years and look what a mess it made but some people expect a new government to turn it around in 12 weeks ?
It will take a lot longer than what people think or expect.

The Coalition's $4.5 billion cuts to foreign aid may take money out of moderate Islamic schools in Indonesia, reducing education quality and potentially increasing the risk of hardline Islam, a local education expert has warned.
And shadow treasurer Joe Hockey's insistence that he was only cutting into growth in the aid budget and not reducing it in real terms is wrong, according to ANU academic Robin Davies.
Mr Hockey said on Thursday the money saved from aid would go into roads in Melbourne and Sydney, but he would not spell out where the savings will fall until he is in government. However Indonesia is Australia's largest aid recipient and is likely to suffer the largest cuts, even though Tony Abbott has said his government would boast a “Jakarta, not Geneva focus” in foreign relations.
The biggest single portion of Australia's aid spending in Indonesia goes to education, particularly to moderate Islamic schools or pesantren, which are attended by millions of children particularly in poor rural areas where the government school system does not reach.
Alissa Wahid, a daughter of former Indonesian president Abdurrahman Wahid who has worked closely alongside the Australian aid program in Islamic schools, said any cuts would damage Australia's national interest.
“The money that's used to improve the quality of these schools, the majority of it comes from Australian aid, so can you imagine what will happen if this budget is taken away?” Ms Wahid said.

Point taken MORE could be spent on our childrens education and schools as i believe gharity begins at home, if Indonesia is going to be so hard to get on with then let them find funding else where. Giving Indonesia more aid to educate their children will not stop the muslim radicals from forcing their will on the Indonesian children and they will grow up with the same ideoligies as their teachers.
They will come to Australia if they want to and no amount of education or money will prevent them trying to overun our country and change it to a muslim state.

you miss the point. people here cry 'cut the funding to indonesia ' daily. the point being, that was promised by hockey and tone already .

The left can’t wait to slip the knife in
at every opportunity.
None of it can cover the facts. The monumental failure of Labor is not something the voters can forgive or forget in a hurry.
The ineffectual Shorten using Plibersek to attack is transparent to everybody. They made a huge blunder picking Bill, PM Abbott has his measure.
The panic and hate we see every day from all parts of the left is staggering. They will never be able to keep it together, they have no dicipline, as we were witness to the last 6 years of the Labor failure.
If Labor ignore the reasons why they were beaten so badly they are going to shrink into an ineffectual rabble that is going to be unelectable for decades, if ever.
