I saw this posted on my Facebook page. So much for his promise to stop the boats. Seems like we might have a few more landing on our shores now.
SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES: There could be an influx of asylum seekers in the wake of Australia’s spying scandal.
A senior Indonesian immigration official has apparently told local media he will no longer take measures to stop asylum seekers trying to reach our waters.
We’ll bring you full political coverage tonight in our evening bulletin on Channel 9.

PRIME Minister Tony Abbott could be constrained in responding to Indonesia over spying claims because of concerns there could be more damaging revelations still to be revealed, it's been suggested.
Josh Frydenberg, parliamentary secretary to Prime Minister Tony Abbott, said the Guardian newspaper had stated that just 1 per cent of the information from US intelligence leaker Edward Snowden was in the public arena.
Mr Frydenberg said it was a longstanding tradition of both sides of politics not to comment on on intelligence matters and Mr Abbott had adopted exactly the right approach in expressing regret but not an apology.

I am very happy with the stance he has taken in this Indonesian issue
Goodness .... they've named a mountain after the PM ? Already ?
I suppose they have some things in common - immovable, inflexible, mute, slow to react, gets in the way ....
Is ridicule all you have?

It was a joke, a play on words, a pun, call it what you will. Don't take things so literally - they haven't really named a mountain after Mr Abbott.

As I already mentioned several times "the Indonesians have NOT asked for an apology, they have asked for explanation". I agree, Abbott shouldn't be commenting publicly on the matter, he should have had PRIVATE conversation with SBY, that is how things are done, NOT mouthing off in the parliament.
The Indonesians were insulted and ignored, now they are taking their time responding to Abbott's letter, which is not a good sign. He made a mess out of everything he touches. He just does not have any idea about how to be diplomatic = to be polite, keep the other party happy and not to give up anything that need not to be given up. That is what foreign policies are all about.
And of-course, there is much much more; I do not need an article to know that. I and several other informed posters have been saying that repeatedly, but the reason why this is so damaging is that it is one thing to spy on politicians, and totally another to bug the private calls of a 1st lady. Actually, some opinions say that is not legit spying, that is a criminal offence.
