I wonder, is it different if your dad is a policeman?

Ms Bishop has done a good job here. I wonder why the parents of other drug traffickers, who said it wasn't their drugs, didn't get the same help?

No, not at all.

The Gov't often says when being questioned about things OS, we are doing XYZ but dont want to say any more.

Read a few books in the last 30 years, you pick up bits of info on how things work behind the scenes.

The person I was referring to in the other thread was in a US Gov't Military organsation that used to be involved in all of those activities.

Would kind of knows what goes on.

First time I've ever seen the government step in and rescue someone accused of any crime. Yet Peter Gresta is still in gaol for not committing any crime. Just a blatant display of what your tax dollars can get if you have the right friends

They are probably helping make eBay Rules & Policies also.

How do people "know" what the government does or doesn't do to try to help? Do they ph you up and tell you?

Why?  What if she is guilty?

I do think that the government should have done everything humanly possible to get those journalists released though.

Our government cannot interfere in other coutry's legal process, does not matter how unfair it may be.

bushies

They (as in consular officials) visit you in jail. That's how you know.

You often hear people say "the Gov't should do more". They are NOT there to hall your ass out and cover legal costs or represent you legally. They assist where they can but it is not a free and neer ending service.

The Govt will in certain circumstances evacuate citizens by air or sea if required, normally in bulk. Bali being an example.

The british did it in Libya by air and seas including some dangerous missions where they flew in without premission,

landed in the desert and flew out. Mission of last resort type of stuff.

But she may actually be innocent?

Although i do wonder what kind of an idiot goes travelling with a guy they met on a dating app

Innocent until proven guilty. Totally agree with the second sentence.

If she received special treatment due to any connections, that would be outrageous. But any Australian in difficulties abroad can ask for help.
