What do you think?

There are approx 100,000 homeless people in Aust, yet the liberal gov wants to spent 100 million dollars on a prebicite re gay marriage    .... Surely this money could be used ( better spent ) providing a home for our homeless?

Same-sex marriage: What does the Bible really have to say?

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-08-23/same-sex-marriage-what-bible-has-to-say-robyn-whitaker/8831826

I think this is why most people have lost faith with religion. those who are still 'believers' like to tell us 'the bible says' all the time.

but the truth is the bible says nothing of the sort, its an interpritation usually done by someone with a bias to change what is actually written.

if we needed any proof religion should be stamped out its the truth comming out about the clergy and child molestation.

So, which way are you all going to vote?

lol, just kidding

I,m still not sure how I will vote.

On the question of whether gays should be able to marry, I think if they where prepared to accept any other word for the ceremony, such as " civil union" and leave the word marriage to mean the joining of a man and a woman, half of the opposition would disappear overnight.

I have a couple of good friends who are gay and have been to parties at their place which have been attended predominantly by gay couples. When our kids where young, we even took them along to give them some understanding and respect for other peoples choices. I don't have any problems with gays making decisions to marry like the rest of us. Its none of my business and has absolutely zero effect on my life.

What I do object strongly too is the politically correct BS of being told how I should think, by those who consider themselves political progressives. The thought police that howl down anyone who voices objections to gay marriage. The way we are told we are too childish to publicly debate the subject and there will be hate speech and persecution if the general public are allowed to have a say in the debate.

The only hate speech and persecution I have seen has come from the gay activist lobby as it tries to bully any dissenting views into submission. I don't have a lot of time for religion, but I do think religious peoples views should be respected. After all marriage has been a predominantly religious ceremony for thousands of years.  I don't see a lot of tolerance or respect being shown for those who object to gay marriage on religious grounds.

This tends to give me that Brexit feeling where a no vote would stick it up those elitists who consider their views are much more important than the little peoples.

With those conflicting emotions I,m considering abstaining from the vote all together

Re: What do you think?

my concern is what if the vote ends up a no. Will the hetro-phobic gay community continue to hound anyone who dare have a different idea/opinion other than theirs?

The problem is though, the people who will actually be affected by a NO vote are not elitists at all, they are  ordinary, everyday folk exactly like you and me  who just want to be able to get married.

Having a personal opinion does not give anyone the right to impose it on everyone else.

No voters wish to deny homosexuals the right to marry. What rights are yes voters trying to deny heteroxexuals?

well its not like the gay comunity has been subject to any hounding over the past hundred years.

us 'normal' people must have the right to make fun of gay people, call them names, chase them down and if no ones watching...beat the carp out of them. if they die...bonus.

yep, them hetro-phobic gays need to pull their heads in, they got nothing to complain about.

Re: What do you think?

Most people with an intellectual disability, mental illness, those who have committed serious crimes such as murder and/or rape, people with genetic disorders, and individuals who have neglected or abused children can all marry. And in the majority of cases they can have children. We don't jump up and down about that, yet have serious issues with gay people wanting to marry. What does this reflect about society in general?
