What happened to their hands do you think?

I hope that our Navy is always reputable.

Unfortunately there are too many reports of poor attitude towards asylum seekers from Navy personnel. Didn't one young guy get stood down last week because of his facebook comments that he was out to get them or something?

Defence has confirmed it is investigating the comments, which the member made on a friend's post about asylum seekers whose boat had sunk.

"More Asylum boaties sank in a boat trying to get here to jump on Centrelink and get free government housing," the post said.

The Navy member responded: '"I'm about to head out today to deal with these **bleep**."

My nephew is on this ship.
The Commanding Officer of HMAS Darwin, Terence Morrison, is leading 220 personnel to the Gulf as part of Operation Slipper.

Yes, but not a Navy person. He worked for a company contracted to operate detention centres.

Unless, like Az, you heard about someone else and I'm talking about a different person.

I don't know freaky. I just heard he was a young Naval officer.

But it stands to reason that if we treat this like a "war" and we have a government who dehumanises people with their language (and actions) then it stands to reason that members of our defence forces might feel justified in treating these people like an enemy that needs to be 'taken care of'.

There have been quite a few Serco workers involved in incidents that are less than acceptable but I have not heard of the one freaky has mentioned.

Re: What happened to their hands do you think?

Maybe these personnel are sick of putting their lives at risk year after year for these people. They would have first hand knowledge of what really goes on and how they sink their boats and they have to go into the water to save them. They would also know if these people are economic refugees from their nationality so they would know if the person is trying to get to the land of "milk and honey" via the back door.

Even if you think that we should take every person that arrives by boat and we should do everything for them you have to admit that our men and women out there making sure that these people don't die at sea would be under enormus strain. You want them to be perfectly behaved but I would think they might be getting sick and tired of doing this ever since Rudd reversed the legislation that was stopping the boats.

Most of them only get to go once.................. they get quite keen to be deployed, after all, this is what they are trained to do. I am not sure they have any more of an idea about the people than those who don't get to go.

Maybe it's time for a new jobs than if they're so sick of this one.

As 90%, or there abouts, prove to be genuine asylum seekers most are not so called economic refugees.

A lot of "maybe's" in your post catmad........maybe if anything you suggest is correct then "maybe" these personnel should think about a career change.
