What is Your immediate Reaction.

A CATHOLIC priest has reportedly told a primary school mass in Melbourne’s west Jill Meagher would not have been murdered if she had not been out so late.

Jill Meagher was raped and murdered while walking home after leaving a Brunswick pub at about 1.30am in September, 2012. According to reports, the priest made the comments to staff and students on Friday morning at St Christopher’s Primary School in Airport West while holding up Bayley’s picture in Friday’s newspaper and talking about murder and rape.

Re: What is Your immediate Reaction.

A church service is an event that anyone can attend, unless there is a restriction by the church itself  that says if you are such and such a religion, don't come in to our church.    I suppose there might be those, but in general, I don't think that applies to the "mainstream" types, perhaps cults etc ...  Smiley Happy

Re: What is Your immediate Reaction.

I don't wish to take this thread off topic, so perhaps someone will start a new thread about public access to churches, what is public and what is not.  It's a double edged sword.

Re: What is Your immediate Reaction.

It was a church service at a school so no, not a public event. Open to students and staff of the school.
Parents may also attend.

Re: What is Your immediate Reaction.

It doesn't matter, by any other name, the parents, children and staff were there to hear the diatribe, and now it is 'public' because obviously someone who was there has made it very much so .

Whether it was the staff or a parent who wanted it brought out into the open is irrelevant.  They didn't consider it 'private' at all.

If a priest wants his speeches and sermons kept private (meaning personal) then he had  better keep it either to himself,  or ask his captive audience to keep his mindset silent ...  Smiley Very Happy

Re: What is Your immediate Reaction.

Back on topic.

I did have another thought/reaction to it this afternoon, and that is, I am so glad that I am not involved in any religion.

If I ever came back to it though (walked away from it at university) I think it would be strictly a personal thing so as to avoid the kind of frightening behaviours that have come to light.

We do have friends who are christians but they know we cannot be part of their 'Sunday' lives.

Reminded me of the silence the Church had, and still does, on the pedophiles in their ranks. I am astounded that someone, anyone thinks what he said is in anyway okay, especially after seeing him explain himself on the news.
