A CATHOLIC priest has reportedly told a primary school mass in Melbourne’s west Jill Meagher would not have been murdered if she had not been out so late.
Jill Meagher was raped and murdered while walking home after leaving a Brunswick pub at about 1.30am in September, 2012. According to reports, the priest made the comments to staff and students on Friday morning at St Christopher’s Primary School in Airport West while holding up Bayley’s picture in Friday’s newspaper and talking about murder and rape.

Some know exactly what a homily is ... but here is one description ....
A homily is a commentary that follows a reading of scripture. In Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, and Eastern Orthodox Churches, a homily is usually given during Mass (Divine Liturgy for Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches, and Divine Service for the Lutheran Church) at the end of the Liturgy of the Word.

Interestingly though, it doesn't have to be of a religious nature, rather, it can be a secular moralising oratory.
Goodnight again everyone, time to turn the lights out and go to bed ...

Of course it matters.
Some people just have no filter.
How true that is. It's no surprise why many posters do not come here any more.

You know what I don't get is.... why on earth was this made public? It was said in a church to 100 members.
Who would be mean spirited enough to tell it to the media and hurt her family like that?
What the priest said is for his conscience and should have been dealt with within the Church.Imo
i didn't think of that but you're right.
whoever decided to take it to the media
obviously didn't care how it would affect jill's
family. shame.

especially after seeing him explain himself on the news.
what did he say?

It's terribly sad that the priest actually said what he did, because he didn't care how it would hurt Jill's family at all either.
It's good that, albeit by proxy, the church has apologised for the priest's appalling attitude, not that it mitigates it totally, but it does show that in some things, that church is capable of doing something right for once.

how do you feel about the person reporting
it to the media?
what did the priest actually say? do you know?

I don't feel anything about the person who reported it to the media. It must have upset them terribly and that was their reaction to it.
