A CATHOLIC priest has reportedly told a primary school mass in Melbourne’s west Jill Meagher would not have been murdered if she had not been out so late.
Jill Meagher was raped and murdered while walking home after leaving a Brunswick pub at about 1.30am in September, 2012. According to reports, the priest made the comments to staff and students on Friday morning at St Christopher’s Primary School in Airport West while holding up Bayley’s picture in Friday’s newspaper and talking about murder and rape.
NOW.

of course i have said that to my kids - however i haven't told them if their faith was stronger they wouldn't be out, thereby implying they are at fault.

You are so right Pepe.
The priest implied that Jill Meagher lacked faith in God (and who knows whether she believed in God or not) and he plucked her name from a paper to make an example of her and waved in front of the children and staff. It doesn't matter where or who was there, it makes no difference to his shocking attitude at the time.
Jill Meagher was someone he had never met, didn't know, and had no idea of the circumstances, which he freely admitted himself in the interview.
Time for those who insist on blaming the victim to stop it.
There is an enormous difference between teaching children the dangers of stranger danger in the dark or daylight, and accusing a victim as an adult of being complicit (by implication) in her own murder.

Ms Meagher's family is reportedly preparting to launch legal action against the the State of Victoria.
Ms Meagher's husband Tom and her parents George and Edith McKeon are, according to News Corp Australia, joining a lawsuit with other relatives of people killed by criminals on parole.
What is your reaction to this?
Mine................... hopefully the laws are changed and it never happens again.
I wonder what you would do with the $ from such a lawsuit?

You have posted to yourself so if you are asking me (?) what my reaction to that is, I don't have one right now. It's going to be a wait and see what happens game I suspect.
It's going to be a long and complicated matter, one that might drag on for years with suits, countersuits and a dog eat dog long drawn out situation where the only winners just might be the lawyers.
The laws have to change, but that alone will never stop killers killing, on parole or otherwise ...
As for money, nothing will ever bring their loved ones back, and it's most likely not really about 'money' anyway, so no comment.
