What is it with some Journos ?

We know the standards of journalism have gone down but yesterday we had Ben Fordham tweeting a completley false tweet

that Julie Bishop and Malcolm Turnbull were going to get together for a "SECRET" meeting. He continued to push the point

in the afternoon even though he knew full well Turnbull was in one part of NSW and Bishop in another and even knew what

flight she was on.

They spin more than politicians

I thought they were supposed to Report the news, not be part of it.

John Laws on the phone to Tim Cahill

Then you have John Laws on the phone to Tim Cahill, with plenty of interesting things to discuss, Winning the Cup, the new

club he is going to, Soccer in Aus etc etc but all he can do is focus on the reported $10 million deal Tim has signed.

Like how about discussing something that soccer fans want to hear about, Why the new club, why not the A league.

And then you only have to get onto aircraft accidents and crashes and supposed "experts" they have on TV or quote

in the media. Plus the standard "the brave pilot heroically steered the aircraft away from the school which had children playing in the playground" or "The selfless pilot stayed at the controls until the last minute to steer away from the town" or , followed by a picture of a Cessna when they state it was a Beechcraft or a 4 engined Boeing 747 when it was a

two engines Airbus A300 which they actually state in the article Smiley LOL

In the past, it might have taken a while to research and put together something but with everything on line,

it takes 5 seconds to cross check in google or find the correct picture to use.

Anyway, rant over.

Nah, that would require something more substantial than name calling and personal attacks.

Re: What is it with some Journos ?

The most unprofessional journalists in Australia work for The Daily Telegraph - sensationalised headlines, stories full of tripe.

Remember that front page article about alleged DSP bludgers where they used old non-related photo and comparison with a wounded soldier?

2014

The Daily Telegraph has been rapped by the Press Council over a front page story which unfavourably compared those claiming disability allowance with Australia’s war heroes.

The watchdog said the implication that people receiving the Disability Support Pension (DSP) were bludgers, compared with the bravery of injured soldiers, was offensive, unfair and inaccurate.

Above the headline, ‘Slackers and Slouch Hats’, which appeared in May this year, the newspaper carried two photographs, one showing a queue of people with the strap ‘NSW DSP recipients: 270,415′, and another showing a wounded soldier with the words ‘Nation’s war wounded: 226,016′.

A secondary headline read: “NSW Disability Support Pensioners now outnumber Australia’s total war wounded by more than 44,000″.

The story sparked a wave of complaints, including to the Press Council, with then Disability Commissioner Graham Innes branding it a “low” in Australian journalism.

Media Watch also revealed the photo of the queue was not DSP claimants or even Australians, but Swedish students at the University of Orebro.

They fixed that well didn't they. Just get rid of the disability commissioner, who was only doing his job.

Not sure about the others, but I think it's stretching reality a bit to call John Laws a journalist.

As far as sloppy journalism goes, such as wrong pictures, that has probably something to to do with all the drastic staff cuts.  They chuck in a pic of a plane, just to make sure that people know what plane looks like, any plane will do.  🙂  More embarrassing is when they use a photo of a wrong person.  Especially when they talk about paedophiles or criminals etc. and show a photo of innocent person.  But when you have some junior staff member doing the proofreading and being told they are not fast enough, such stuff ups will happen.

I thought Laws was dead.

He looks that way.  Add 10 years on to his "official" age and it will be evident why.
