What is worse?

Those that overstay their visa that fly in (majority)

or

Those that arrive by boat.......with the possibily of seeking asylum (unlikely) and sent back.

I generally keep up with what is going on and don't understand the governments fixation with boats when the numbers are the clear minority.

Please don't change my words am3 🙂

Take some time to read what I am referring to

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-03-15/chinese-fly-into-australia-to-make-27dodgy27-asylum-claims/389...

and it is still happeing, you don't need to believe my views 🙂 nor do you need to believe what you read, I personally believe it is valid.

Please tell me what post number you are referring to.

I have mentioned that it is your opinion and I accept that. However for others to believe what is claimed in posts, solid details need to be provided.. not just comments like 'it is in my head' if others want to be taken seriously.

I don't believe much of what I read in news articles.. especially when they print things like 'big numbers' etc, they are filling in the gaps with stuff they have no credible references to.

As we all well know, after the last few years, newspaper journalists write stories with bias.. if they want to put down the Govt of the day.. their stories will have a slant accordingly.

Backpackers up to the age of 31 (I think) can work during their first visit. If they work a total of 88 days on a farm (any other form of work doesn't qualify) they can have their visa extended by an extra year. If they leave Australia and come back later,it's only as a tourist i.e they don't get a working visa.

I guess I have not been truthful am3, I know exactly why the government is fixated on boat people, it is for political advantage, worked for John Howard I guess, just a bit surprised that nobody else has said this, unless I missed it. Sorry to mislead 🙂

Yeah, the working visa has the age limit (31), for travelling ''youth' not older people.

New Zealand has a great influx of people on working visas from Nepal and the Phillipines working on dairy farms. Families have moved there. It must be hard if they like living/working there for them, when it is time to go home.

You didn't mislead. I already posted that the purpose thread is most likely a dig at the current Liberal Govt. Do you really underestimate others here that much they wouldn't guess that?

Apart from that your lack of facts to support any of your views and no sensible argument in these type of threads is a clear indicator of your intentions.

I don't support either main political party, how ever I am not going to just jump in every Liberal bashing thread and agree with the OP just because it is expected.

There is no reason the rest of us (other posters on this thread) can't have and have had a sensible discussion on this topic, without the need to 'play games'.

So really, you aren't interested in  any debate or discussion.. just hoping someone else will agree with your obscured view?

I don't believe the current Govt is fixated on boat people for political advantage, maybe a big number of other people reading this thread think the same?

If Kevin Rudd returned as PM in the last election, he most likely would be continuing with the same stance (which he started when he was still PM) as the current PM.

I await your next thread topic.

What I posted is completely sensible and logical am3, not sure why you would think otherwise?

Surely the public deserves the truth? There are a lot of myths surrounding this issue

I would agree with that.

Which makes this comment:  I know exactly why the government is fixated on boat people, it is for political advantage, worked for John Howard I guess. nonsense, especially if looking for someone else to agree with you.

Refer to the comment ' all in my head' as a reply to requests for reliable data about the claims for numbers of overstayers.

I haven't read anything in this thread which is 'the truth' if you are referring to overstayers.

There are even more 'myths' about asylum seekers.
