What's the purpose of marriage?

Is it just another social construct and expectation?

It was quite funny - I had said I'd rather you not be there - just hang around then leave - until all done.

All was going swimmingly - he was wearing a v neck sweater - to which I had attached myself.

Everytime it kind of hurt - I'd give the sweater a twist - until it was up to my elbow - and - he couldn't go anywhere.

I have to admit this was a 2 hour labour - but sheesh - she owes me.

What's the purpose of marriage?

To make lots of money for wedding venues, caterers, florists, dressmakers etc.

Good point. Apparently the wedding industry is worth 3.6 to 9.5 Billion dollars a year.

Re: What's the purpose of marriage?

Mr Elephant(who is a bit of a cynic) has a saying: The length of a marriage is inversely proportional to the amount spent on the wedding.

He might just be onto something . There were a total of 10 people at our wedding - and that's  including  the priest and a little old lady who'd just popped into the church to say her rosary. The reception was supper for eight at the home of  the best man's parents. and the wedding cake was an icecream cake from Woolies.

This year we'll celebrate our 58th anniversary

Re: What's the purpose of marriage?

When originally conceived, it was the formal method of transferring ownership of a woman (girl, usually) from her parents to her new owner husband.

It still is in some societies.
