What was it like in the 50's?

I keep hearing that Abbott wants to take us back to the 50's but I wasn't born then.

I just want to prepare myself for what it might be like under an Abbott LNP Government.

I appreciate your input Cat Happy

There were no child care bonuses, you paid for UNI yourself, they had the White Australia Policy, so no multi cultureism, no dole or unmarried mothers pension.

There were no fridges, no TV's no passenger air flights, probably no planes.

On the plus side, men opened doors for you, gave up their seat on buses, carried your heavy parcels, earned the money while you minded the kids.most people were poor so you did not feel different.

I think you're joking  🙂

Fridges and TVs were around in the 50s, TV was black and white and there were not 24 hour broadcasts.

No child care centres.  No television until late 50s.  Unmarried mothers didn't exist.  There was a dole. Very few women went to uni.   The males were educated first.

When a man entered a room he took his hat off.

Chicken was not as easily available as today.  You  mostly had to buy them live, cut off their necks or break their neck, pluck them, etc .

From what I heard it was for special occasions.

DY: "I keep hearing that Abbott wants to take us back to the 50's but I wasn't born then."

But but you keep quoting history, and history, and history!

Unless you were a part of a traditional family structure it was a very frightening time to be a child. I don't care who wins this bunfight, but please God they do not go back to those times. The current world is so much better.
