What would Australia/Gondwana be like today if it had not been colonised by Britain?

Who would have colonised this country?  The Dutch? The French? The Portuguese  Or maybe Indonesia? or?

What would it be like under one of these other countries

What would  Gondwana be like if it hadnt been  colonised?

Nero, apparently the Chinese could have colonised Australia in the 14th Century. They travelled to Western Australia in a fleet of large, teak ships at this time, looking for minerals, plants etc... which they evidently found. They were unimpressed with the land, encountered no indigenous people, gave no consideration to settling here and headed home with their loot.

So what do you think would have happened to this country and its inhabitants if the Chinese had decided to stay and colonise Australia?

I suspect that within a century it would have been wrested from their grasp by the Spanish or Portuguese, who were the maritime 'heavies of the day,

(edited for spelling)

Possibly correct TGSE and the Spanish and Portuguese  were brutal and didnt exactly leave much of any local/native population intact if they colonised a country.  They tended to do a cleansing and or enslave the locals

So that then brings up a question, what would Australia be like if the Spanish or Portuguese colonised us

Nero, I am tempted to say but will resist the urge 😄

Dont resist, join the discussion and add an opinion, write a long white paper piece on your thoughts, thats what this thread is about  WHAT IF's and WHAT WOULD it be like and all opinions are welcome, except the race card and the political ones  as this thread is neither of these

Well in certain areas of Australia, I don't think it would look much different than it does now.

Maybe the rivers would have been diverted inland to form dams.  Smiley Happy

LOL, you've obviously never travelled to the Northern Territories. I somehow doubt anybody could construct a Hoover Dam out there!

Thanks for the laughs tho 😄

Nero_wulf,

I think this thread will go the way of any and all threads re sensible debate because it will be hijacked with all and sundry with an axe to grind or those who have a personal antipathy to anybody of the centre of politics.

I enjoyed participating and adding my opinion, thanks for posting.

Up North there is massive water courses and the massive Manton dam the Darwin river dam,  the Ord river project, there's no end to the water on our continent but labor builds desalination plants at the cost of billions and they are NEVER used but we still have to pay....forever. Genuis.

Maybe we would have been better off if the Chinese had decided to stay.

So you are advocating the building of some sort of channel for water to be diverted to the drier south ?

if this was a non- political thread, why the dig at Labor about desalination plants ? Is this a Labor disease, the need for water security ?
