What would it take to stop you getting on a leaky boat?

If you are that desperate for a better life for your children, I imagine you would do whatever you can. 

If you have nothing left - no country, no material possessions, no land, no family - then what fear would you have of a perilous journey.

If the choice is between definitely being killed if you are forced back to your own country as opposed to maybe drowning, then I suppose the choice is clear - you have little choice.

It goes to show how desperate you'd have to be to put your at risk like that. It goes to show that the reason for leaving was much worse than getting on a leaky boat.

What would stop me? The option to get on a sea worthy vessel. Peace in my country of origin. A million bucks would probably do it, too....

So how do they pay the people smugglers?  And their familes are already here telling them how good it is.
