Tas, bananas are no longer cheap.
But then neither is, or was ever, Maple Syrup.
Maybe in the Provinces, but not here.
But it sounds delish anyway.

Absolutely true Stawks, bananas are getting very expensive here, don't know about the mainland.
In Canada, where I first went to uni, we could get bananas for less than 5c each because they came by the million straight through from South America. It was great for us students because we could make just about anything with them, including even strange kind of dinners if we were creative, which we had to be ... Potato and banana mashed together is something else!
Maple syrup was all over the place, although more expensive than buying it in Quebec (by that time, I was living in British Columbia) on the other side of the country. It's expensive here, but friends send it to me from time to time for birthdays, Christmas and even Easter and always in bigger containers than you can get here.
I really miss the four litre containers of it though ..

I always love the ' student ' stories.
DD was on exchange - Uni of East Anglia - Norfolk.
Had to shop for food - OK - 3 mile bus ride into town - shop - 3 mile bus ride back.
Oh woe is me - by the time I got back - all the bags were broked.
Told her to do what Stawks does - go online - Sainsburys deliver.
Spoilt possum - next I hear is the strudel will not fit in the microwave.
Must have been the mother of all strudels. lol
