Coronavirus disruption hits store shelves as Australian retailers face 'serious pinch' from COVID-19 outbreak
we are so much reliant on endless ships arriving from china loaded with all the stuff we cant live without and a superbug gets out of control
life as we know it may well end!

what makes anyone think this will end anytime soon?
or get much worse?
you see all the people with masks on?
i heard an expert say today masks wont stop you getting the virus, its particles are so small they pass right through them.
they will help slow the 'spray' from a cough or a sneeze.
but most of the infections are from touching the mouth/face with infected hands.
has anyone worn a mask for very long?
i have, your face sweats and its hard not to remove the mask to scratch/wipe your sweaty mouth nose erea.
fingers crossed this thing slows down soon but be prepared for it to get much worse.
right now its stopping stuff comming from china, it could soon spread to many other countries.
imagine all imports exports stopping?
rekon that would have an effect on us all?
all travel halted by plane?
sounds like a disaster movie plot right?
this virus isnt under control, its on the move. if your very old or very young your likely not to survive it.
some countries are not even taking it seriously or are hiding the truth from the world.
climate change may well be nothing next to a virus spreading out of control.

Could be Mother Earths way of getting rid of some of us before we completely stuff her up.
I hear car parts will be a problem sooner or later

I came through melbourne international airport 10 days ago and have to say did not see many wearing masks.
Did you know that 700 people die per day in China due to motor vehicle accidents. Up to 650 000 world wide die each year from respiratory diseases linked to the flu. Theres still some time before the full extent of the current crisis is known but do you really think climate change will be nothing compared to covid-19.

I buy all my clothes from the op shop or they are given to me, I have so many I wont be relying on buying any new clothes from China for a very long time
I buy clothes from a US company, and the ones I like the best are from a US manufacturer where all their clothes are proudly made in the US, not China.
You obviouly have more $$$ than me, I am poor lol
I doubt it. 🙂 I only buy them when on special or heavily reduced and I only buy a couple of styles. I'm not interested in fashion - just comfort, so it doesn't bother me that I've got say, five identical dresses or tops where only the colours differ.
Different colours.....Luxury, I,m a fairly big, stocky bloke and dont fit into the S, M, L sizes found in most shops. If I find something suitable I just buy the lot even if they are the same colour..

I,ve been reading up on the effects of the virus on global commodity markets. ( making decisions about timing the marketing of my lambs and wool ) The SARS outbreak a few years back killed around 700 people so not as bad, but the effects on commodities and trade lasted around 3 months.
How bad and how long the effects of the current Corona virus will be, depends entirely on whether it can be contained or it escapes into a global pandemic. Lets just say the wool is off to market later this week. Get in quick in case the s..it hits the fan.

It's so unpredictable nowdays does anyone know how markets will react. From what I read some markets will bounce back with little or no long term effects but others like tourism will not. Now would be a good time to have some money in the bank.

You name it, it is sourced from China. It might not strike home today or tommorow. It will be when you take your car in for a service and they need to replace the brake pads or you call out a plumber and he is struggling to get the parts to fix your problem. People living in their little houses in the burbs might not need or do very much and so become complacent about things outside of their door. But this makes them even more vulnerable to major disruptions as they also cant live without the complex external links that allow suburban homes to function.
I often wonder how people in our cities would go if we had another crisis similar to the depression. No money for power or water or food or fuel. People have become completely reliant on social infrastructure and would not travel too well if these systems failed. Its all dandy while things are going smoothly, but we are more vulnerable than most realise.
your right, thing might not bother us in the short term but in the long game losing imports from china will have a huge effect on us all.
we might think, well i dont need the stuff from china but ya just dont realise how much you really do.
how much medical equipment comes from china?
maybe that hip replacement or new knee is manufactured there?
or the million other bibs n bobs they use during an average day in hospitals.
its not just cheap shoes n clothes, its pretty much everything.
Supply of some medical drugs will become an issue
