How can someone be accused of cheating, or in this case, not sticking to the agreement, BEFORE the event?

Easy, after they gave their opening address.
This whole argument is nit picking in the extreme.
Rudd did not hide his notes. The rules did not say no notes, they said no documents or props.
The rules said pen and paper allowed. If not for notes for what?

In a debate, such as this, notes are allowed to be taken for rebuttal purposes.
Bringing notes in from the start indicates you don't really know what's going on.
And if anyone from the Libs side had of objected during the debate I can just imagine the mouthing off that would have happened in here and elsewhere by the one-eyed supporters.

The Press Cub rules for televised debates have been almost the same for years:
Leaders Debate 2013
Rule 12: "The Leaders may have a pen and paper on the lectern and no other documentation or props.
"These rules have been established by the agreement of both parties and the board of the National Press Club"
I wonder (I lie) what the agreement of both parties means?.
Rudd made a mistake probably inadvertent, and rather than waffle in his defence, remember that this sort of exposure is covered by his campaign director(s). Gillard's chief one from OS was not very good, so perhaps the 3 that Rudd has imported from OS are out of touch with Press Club rules, or also not very good either.
Why do the ALP need to import foreign workers to assist their PM, when they profess to requiring employment of home-grown workers first ?

monman - may I ask you if your farm animals pic and your upside down name are posted in your posts or are they a siggie?
I have siggie's blocked and don't see anyone else's but can see the above.
Tony A doesn't care that Kevin R had notes (as he said in the link posted previously). Bit of a storm in a teacup now?
