Why Have Channels 10 & 7 Banned This Ad?

Marriage Alliance angry after channels 'refuse to run ads against gay-marriage'

Ms York said the Marriage Alliance wanted to find out what impacts legalising same sex marriage would have.

“We so have to find out what ramifications there will be. What will be the effects, there'll be so little discussion about this,” she said at the launch last Sunday.

The group said it had contacted Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull to make them aware of the decision.

"Has political correctness or the power of a certain lobby group reached so far down that it now erodes the once proud Australian 'fair-go' character that it is preventing ordinary Australians from having a voice?” Ms York said.

I guess the TV Channels have the right to refuse or accept advertising as they see fit. But this ad isn't really even saying anything for or against. It's just inviting you to contact them for further discussion.

that's what they want to inform you about.

And where and how are they doing this?

If in fact they WERE doing this then the ad would no doubt be acceptable. But the ad does not provide information. It only has thinly disguised anti statements.

and a click-through for more information, if I remember rightly.

Nope.

Looks like you didn't look too carefully at the website.

The links are all circular. You think they will take you to the answer or to further discussion when the little pointy finger appears but they simply take you back to the Home page.

Every single click through is like that.

Like I said, the webite has no information. It is a sham.

*sigh*

these just from the first visitor

posts page......

Good on you Foxtel, home of free speech and debate.
I might order another box now.

Good stuff with those ads. I think people are entitled to their opinion and defending what they think is right.

Those people who are cancelling their subscription over the Marriage Alliance ads are being utterly ridiculous. They seem to think that there is only one side to a debate. They want free speech as long as it aligns to their way of thinking. Believe it or or not, we live in a democracy and views will be aired whether you like them or not. Well played FOXTEL.

well done foxtel for upholding freedom of speech ,haters always going to hate

Well done Foxtel for standing your ground. You have gotten a long time customer, sticking around a lot longer. Just because a bunch of people are crying over social media, doesn't mean that's the voice of Australia. Don't cave in to bullying from a group of people, regardless of who they are. Free speech to all, pro, anti, or whatever you believe. Well done!! Peace to all!

Great to see Foxtel has a balanced view of the world. There are two sides to any story and especially in the discussion about marriage. If those wanting to redefine marriage can't be less bigoted and let the argument flow freely, then we are even more sad for them that we were.
You want freedom of speech - then live it out each day.

Dear Foxtel,

Thank you for not bowing to pressure to censor the pro-marriage ad.

I want you to know that millions of Australians are tired of being bullied by advocates for changing the law in a way that will create a stolen generation of children without a mother or a father

Thank Foxtel for not caving in to a vocal minority.

etc etc etc

all I saw were complaints

how did you manage to miss the others lol

posted just now:

One of the Australian Marriage Equality Ads, that will start airing soon on Foxtel. Much more professionally made. Pity they won't air on Seven or Ten, due to their decision to not air those other ads. (They don't want to be accused of biased, for not running anti-marriage ads)

Re: Why Have Channels 10 & 7 Banned This Ad?

I really don't think there's much need for a running commentary julia. People can read it for themselves,, there may be a handful of responses in agreement with Foxtel. (I saw 2) , but reading it, I have to say the majority rules, lol

the ad hasn't been banned.

The way I see it, is that Channels 7 and 10 have not banned the ads.  That could be seen as discriminatory.

If as Julia says, they have announced that the schedules are unworkable.  That's all they need to say.
