Why are Atheists so militant, strident and intolerant of people with religious beliefs?

How do they know there's no God? It's just a belief system.

What I'd like to know is; why do certain groups of people who hold religious beliefs demand respect from the rest of us?

We must respect their religions and beliefs . . why? they are wishful thinking at best and lunatic and delusiory ideas at worst.

That is hardly a description.What does God actually consist of?  Is it animal, vegetable, mineral, some kind of gas, all of the above or none of the above? And is it the same 'being' as Viracocha, the Great Creator worshipped by the Incas or Rangi, the primal Sky Father of the Maori people?

They don't count she-ele. The one true god is the Abrahamic one. The 55% of the world's population who don't worship this particular god obviously don't count, nor do many sub-branches of Christianity, apparently.
