OR . . . when you post the quote you could include a link for all to use rather than relying on members to find it for themselves. Not all those who visit here are as tech savvy as others and would struggle to find the origin of the quote.
Also, what part of your post intro are we supposed to use in a google search?
My initial overall comparison was flawed by being just that ...'overall'.
Current figures ( prior 7 days ) do shout 'no flights from India'.
Interestingly the USA figure is probably overstated inasmuch as Covid
gets more government money thrown at it than Flu.
"Hospital administrators might well . . . . .
Nothing there to direct me to “usatoday” or the headline for the article.

Why block India located citizen repatriation ? Consider the plight of Victoria , now should be obvious why

Apology for creating a point of confusion.

The current wave of coronavirus in India is seriously infecting children for the first time
So additional risk factors to consider
Also
Is obvious now that any repatriated people from India should never be quarantined in a hotel

Well, not the sort of hotels that have been used. There need to be dedicated quarantine facilities built, at least in Vic & NSW.
The reason India is more of a worry to us is not just that they have the new variant of covid, it is because we (at least here in Vic) have a massive Indian population. Virtually no Americans, so they aren't a big worry. In practical terms, we face problems with large numbers of dual citizenship Indians electing to return but no problem from USA.
The other factor is that USA has now had 50% of its population vaccinated. It's moving ahead quickly with the program. Not so India. Or Australia, for that matter.

I think is vacation time in the States and so the vaccine effectiveness outside of trials can be evaluated
We now have incident of "delta" variant - at this time no link to any quarantine detainees - i would suggest koalas are responsible

Just because they haven't found a link doesn't mean there isn't one. There has to be.
I was just rereading some posts on this thread and noticed the question of racism came up.
To me, it doesn't come down to racism, it should come down to how likely is it a returnee will be infected with covid and carry risk into this country?
And how do we balance the wants of people overseas with our responsibility to keep the community here safe?
In fact, you could argue it is criminal to put the wants of a few thousand people (who chose to live/work overseas and who on the whole have places they are staying; they are not tourists) above everyone else in our country.
The solution is easy. Returnees need to be vaccinated before returning and sometimes we might need to pause returns from very high risk countries. Not based on race, based on risk.
