Do they?
Strangely all the industries I've worked in, where women have been employed in the same job, receive exactly the same rate of pay. Some however, were physically incapable of performing exactly the same duties for that exact same pay. Only some mind you, others were quite able.

why? my mother once threatened to resign from a job because she was getting less than her predecessor who had been a man. she was doing an excellent job and the firm didn't want to lose her so they increased her wages. this was more than 50 years ago. my sister in law who is in IT was working in a field only three years ago where she was the only woman doing the same job as a group of men but getting paid less. this was because she was gutsy enough to ask for more when negotiating her wages. after an excellent review she asked for a pay rise and got it. women need to value themselves and each other a great deal more.

Law and Architecture - 2 fields where females blitz their males counterparts when it comes to results.
And yet, male graduates get the top jobs and instantly earn 10% (Law) and 20%(Architecture) more than females in their first jobs.
The disparity then gets worse the longer the women they stay in the industries.
And whilst I understand what crikey and vampire are saying, it's bit hard to NOT accept less when your only other option is not working in the field of study at all.
