As feeders of carrion, dogs are more susceptable to carrying zoonotic diseases than domesticated animals. Its a similar story with wild pigs. That would be the main reason why it would not be advisable to eat dog meat. This may also be why our culture has grown to frown upon eating dog meat.

there are dozens if not hudreds of animals you 'could' eat

in a situation where there was no choice

but why eat horse, camel, hippoptumus, elephant or dog when there is no shortage of lamb, beef or goat?

then there is poultry? or fish?

you could have asked about whale meat.

same answer, why bother when there is better choices.

from the little i know most unusual meat is tough as old boots
