@kabarine wrote:AM if this is there same type of Green Army, I was referring to earier, then it was very well managed my daughter learned heaps in the six months she was there. NO the pay isn't high but surely it better to be outside doing something useful in/for the community than do nothing and getting no where.
Why be so negative about something when you haven't tried it ๐
what jobs were either created by this or what jobs were gained from this wonderful experience?

just off the top of my head, this is something (article) we could be leading the world in, we could do it all here, even the manufacturing part. Large companies could be obliged to offer apprenticeships (where applicable), there are quite a few trades that years of neglect have created shortfalls in. Before the election the liberals said that we could be the food hub for this part of the world, from growing to canning etc, they have done the opposite. Thats just a few.

Well, I am in 2 minds about this; I like the idea of people doing something for the environment and/or the community, and there is no reason why kids could not enjoy doing this kind of work, and get bit more money than they are getting on the dole. Maybe if kids would have to do 2 months in the "Green Army" before they would qualify for the dole and then they would have a choice to get the dole only, or get little bit more while they continue to work.......? There is nothing wrong with bit of manual work; we used to go to do some fruit picking or raking hay in school holidays, and get bit of pocket money. It was hard work, but we had fun.
However; such schemes are not substitute for proper jobs. Jobs that mean people can afford to pay rent, save for house, pay mortgage, buy car, educate their kids. We are creating whole underclass of people who has no chance to have a normal life.

I agree with your first paragraph, not so much with the second, only because I don't believe this is a job creation scheme, it's about your first paragraph, possible purpose for those who may not have any other way of having any.

I think they are beautiful and elegant. But that is really is not relevant if people like the look of them or not; we need them. I do not like the sight of polluting chimneys, and high voltage power lines pylons; there are many things in the landscape which are much more of an eyesore than wind farms.
